Momma’s: I’m curious, how do you feel about rectal temperatures and what age do you stop doing it? No bashing. But I’m curious what other moms do?
@gummybear728 Yea my 3 week old had rsv and the nurses in the hospital only took armpit Temps because they had to take them so often so I figured they had to have a way of knowing if it was genuinely high. I never did think to ask though
I did it till 1yr when needed. They're way too mobile and wiggly for it past 1 lol
We do rectal temps, it’s much more accurate. And it’s not scary, there’s no way you can hurt them unless you’re doing it very incorrectly. We stop around 1 year.
It’s more accurate rectum I was told them armpit but I’m afraid to do it I just use a forehead monitor
That’s what I have. A forehead one for the baby and also an ear one for my older daughter
I've never done them. I don't find it necessary when you can just do it in their arm pit.
That’s a good age to stop. My SIL does it to her 3 year old. I thinks that’s too old
May I ask why? My doctors tell me to do it but I feel uncomfortable doing it.
@gummybear728, our dr told us not to do it because you can perforate their rectum if you don’t do it properly.
Rectal is the most accurate. I've never tried this but maybe you can take one rectal and one armpit and see what the difference is and just keep taking armpits. Does that make sense? Like if it's 99 rectal and 97 armpit then 98 armpit would be 100 rectal? At least it would be an indicator to check rectal if armpit seems high
