Delayed cord clamping is standard practice at my hospital.
@ek_ my doctors have only discussed cord blood donations, never ever brought up delayed cord clamping.
I'm going to delay cord clamping this time. My midwife told me if you delay cord clamping then cord blood banking isn't necessary and will save you money since it's expensive. Those were her words not mine. I'd still research it though
I did the delayed cord clamp, until there was nothing else in the cord. I have read it does great things for baby.
Delayed cord clamping allows all of your baby’s blood to return back to the baby from the placenta. I HIGHLY recommend it. We’ll be waiting until the cord stops pulsating to clamp.
@bitchcraft what all benefits come into play outside of just the rest of the blood and iron?
Does it help with jaundice prevention? Development?
@ejwsmomma120215, I have heard it can help discourage the development of jaundice, BUT I don’t know the validity behind that. I just want my baby to have all its blood back. Lol
We did delayed cord cutting and didn’t clamp at all. We cut the cord before the midwife leaves the house which is hour 3-5 after birth.
Whaaaa?! You don’t need to clamp?? Why do they do it? Are there benefits to not clamping?
@bitchcraft I seen lotus birth when i was trying to research info on delayed cord clamping. You can leave the placenta and cord attached until both fall off which is 3-10 days
@bitchcraft, if the cord has physiologically shut down. Nope! (That’s why they remove the clamp the next dayish because it’s just not needed) hospital don’t allow babies to be attached that long. So the cords have not physiologically shut down when they cut them. Even with delayed cutting. I have homebirths.
