Our pediatrician had us focus more on if our son was gaining vocabulary versus the amount of words he could say. So when he suddenly lost all his words between 18-24 months, that was her signal it was time for an eval by a speech therapist. Before he lost them, he had 5-10 words and a lot of sounds. He gained some back right around 2, but she still had us be evaluated.
Ended up being a good thing, our son has a motor-planning speech disability and without speech therapy he would probably be very behind right now. He’s a little hard to understand, but he’s within the normal range of amount of words and sentence for an almost 3 year old!

Does he understand what you say to him? Language is both ways, if he understands what you say to him, I wouldn't worry a bit. My nephew barely spoke until he was 2, had a speeh eval where the therapist let my sister know he understood everything she was saying on his level and was stubborn. He's 10 now and never stops talking. :)

My son was almost 2. He is now 4.5 and just now speaking full sentences. Still a little hard to understand(He’s in speech therapy) My daughter started talking around 1, she is 21 months and speaks in nearly full sentences. Every child is different, however if you have any concerns bring them up to his doctor 😊

My son did not walk till 15 months. And didn't speak words good till like almost two. And he still has a hard time putting sentences together. He talks with one or two words. "I don't want it" is really his only sentence 😂. But he is all okay. Just behind I guess 🤷 no one has told me he's behind.

Boys talk later than girls but I'd say between 18 mo and 2 you should see an improvement. If not your doc would have suggestions. Make sure you read to them as much as you can too
