Just a refresher....

Here are some great links on Rearfacing:

Legal isn’t always safest. Legal is bare minimum. When it comes to hold safety we should strive for better than the minimum. There are some great seats on the market that are very inexpensive and there’s always programs to help.
Let’s talk booster seats:

Don’t rush your babies. This is one area you don’t want them growing too fast! Be sure they pass the 5 step test before not using a car seat at all (the average child is 10-12 before meeting these!)

Aftermarket Accessories are a big no no:

As always: READ YOUR MANUAL and cross reference with your car’s manual for best install. If you have questions, contact a CPST. You can google where to find them in your area. NOT all fire stations or police stations have them. Many you need to call and schedule when one is on duty. And let’s not forget- most hospitals are not properly trained.
Don’t get angry when someone offers advice. Swallow your pride and do your research. This is your child’s life. The “we didn’t have them and we survived” mentality is dangerous. The ones who didn’t survive aren’t here to talk about it.
Phew. That’s a lot to learn!! CPSTs please feel free to chime in.
Thanks. Saved to my notes to read later. On the run baseball season has started today
@ss3mom I think I should probably save it too. In case they delete her account.
Oh and if their head is falling forward then it's not installed at a correct level, when rearfacing. Seats usually have a line or bubble for this. It's important for babies under 3 months as it can be deadly because it cuts off their oxygen when their head falls forward.
Did she delete the picture? Lol. I knew it was coming when i saw your comment lol.
Idk I figured she just blocked me. Hope they never have an accident, poor baby. This is just a friendly reminder though. Nothing to do with anyone in specific
And for any one who has a grand caravan/town country there is only one tether in the third row, which means only one forward facing harnessed seat can be in the the third row. I have seen so many family sharing one tether spot that’s not safe..... rant over
@momof3cuties, those look like the latches for the latch system they are different then the form the hook behind the seat for the tethers

That's why that one was knocked off our list. But I'll tell you, we got the Sienna and when we forward faced #2 we had huge issues. The headrest was interfering with a proper install, but per Toyota they couldn't be removed if there was a passenger. We had to get a new seat and took forever to find on that worked.
You have to remember to check your carseat manual AND your car manual.
@bodybycheetos my nurse didnt even know how to install our carseat at all. good thing i had been trained when working in daycare.
I had no idea how to install the carseat 🙃 my husband did it and put our son in. Neither of us knew about after product items being unsafe though, and thanks to bb I learned that and took the head rest that was gifted to us out.
@bodybycheetos i also had no idea about after manufacturer items being unsafe til i took the class while working in daycare
Alot of people don't realize what the top tether is on their convertible carseats!
The top tether is to tether your carseat to the car. (Location of these are in car manual). And is to only use when forward facing. It's also not part of the lower anchors of the carseat, you still use the top tether when using the lower anchors when forward facing
Don't install using a seatbelt and anchor. The crash tests only test one or the other not both
The top tether keeps the head from going forward as much as 5 inches when in a crash. So please use the top tether when forward facing!
@nerdymommyplus2 I had no idea about tethers until we went to a convertible with #2. He still rearfaced for years, but sure as shit I researched what it was. And when we bought a new car I researched how many and proper placement.
@laniejay
Alot of people think it's part of the lower anchors and won't use it when using the seat belt but that's not the case.
I should also add a lot of people need to remember you need to be able to slide a piece of paper between your seats (between each carseats and the carseat and seat). My daughter doesn't fit rearfacing in our blazer because the seat touches the passenger seat (it's moved as much as it can)
It always amazes me how so many people think the nurses (who aren't certified in car seat safety) won't let them leave the hospital if the seat or baby isn't installed right.
My hospital doesn't even check if the seat is installed, they just check to see of it's an age appropriate seat 😬
When we left the NICU with #2, the nurse WAS a CPST and she said she couldn't give us a word of advice as it was against hospital policy.

How old?
How old were you when you lost your virginity?
It always amazes me how so many people think the nurses (who aren't certified in car seat safety) won't let them leave the hospital if the seat or baby isn't installed right.
