On day 12 of our nicu stay. Jeremiah is getting stronger by the day and smiling through it all. Popped the top off of his isolette today, started fortifying breastmilk with neosure, and saw the occupational therapist for a bottle evaluation. Very uncoordinated with eating, but he’s up to 25 ml from a bottle. Pumping is going well and my supply is definitely not in question.
He is still having some irregularities with his heart rhythm and minor issues keeping his oxygen levels up, but they aren’t very worried about either of those issues.
My friends baby is now on day two of his stay and is two rooms down from Miah. Friend is still in hospital back home (nicu is an hour and a half drive), but she cleared me to visit bub in the meantime, so I’ve been sending her videos and photos of him. Very much an old soul, that one.
I had mine at 33+1. She was also born with her dad's genetic syndrome (sticklers syndrome, it's rare, and no one's ever heard of it...) it causes bad eyesight and cleft palates. Her biggest hurdle was the bottle feeding. Because of the cleft, she couldn't create the suction needed to breastfeed, so I pumped exclusively for 14 months and was an oversupplier. (Sounds like you are too! Congratulations!) I'm always available to chat about NICU life, preemie stuff, and pumping! Good luck and I hope you guys get to go home soon!
I was 34+3. He’s got great suction just no coordination. I’m definitely an oversupplier, but my toddler is still nursing as well so he helps keep clogs and stuff at bay. I’d donate milk but I’m on a lot of meds so I don’t think I can go through any official channels.
@marzuniversal you can with the Facebook page HM4HB (Human Milk 4 Human Babies) I'm on anxiety meds and made sure to disclose that, even show prescription if mom's wanted to see it (only in person), and there's mom's out there that aren't super picky. Some have to be, but I always made sure to disclose the meds. It always got taken. I donated over 2,000 ounces.
May I ask how many weeks pregnant you were?
