I really need input and comments from you moms if you have gone through the same thing with your child so I can stop crying myself to sleep! My daughter who is going to be 2 years old this month has had a fever of 104 since Wednesday of last week. I’ve been able to get it down with ibuprofen but it always spikes back up. Took her to the ER on Saturday. She has an ear ache in her right ear and a slight UTI. She started an antibiotic yesterday and is taking ibuprofen. (She is also teething and getting her last couple teeth during all of this) Well I thought after giving her the antibiotic her fever would definitely calm down. Nope. She just woke up an hour ago burning up and shaking with her fever back at 104. I gave her ibuprofen and had her chug 2 cups of milk. (She’s been drinking good but is barely eating) I had her stay up with me for about 40 minutes until she stopped with her shakes. I just laid her back down and I’m just scared to fall back asleep. My daughter has never had a high temp like this for this long and it’s just scary to me. If I can’t get her into her pediatrician today for a check up I’m probably going to take her back to the ER to be seen because I’m losing my mind! I cannot stand to see her like this, just breaks my heart.

I don’t have a child that old but I’m in college for medical so I think you’re doing good. Make sure she’s seen today for sure.

My daughter was just in the ER for a UTI. She started meds right away but they take time to work. Fever didn’t go away for another 48 hours. Give it time. Just keep hydrating.

@mrenee0217, no prob. They told me only to come back if she wasn’t making one full pee diaper every six hours. 🙂

My daughter had a fever that high a few weeks ago due to RSV. Rotate ibprophen and Tylenol, popsicles, and when she she starts spiking again put her in a Luke warm bath and just let her play it will cool her back down. You can also let her run around in just a diaper. I had to rotate meds for 4-5 days because if I was so much as 20 mins past the time frame she would immediately spike again and it was so hard to get it back down. Also I’m not 100% on this one but I think once a fever starts you’re supposed to do other drink and not milk because it can make her sick but don’t take my word on that one

Did they give her anything for RSV like antibiotics? And thank you for telling me that, I’m just giving her ice water and gonna try pedialite now! I didn’t know that. Because that’s all she wanted yesterday was milk I didn’t think anything of it but it makes sense!!

@mrenee0217, no apparently RSV is a virus and can’t be treated with antibiotics. They put her on a breathing treatment every 4 hours and rotation of meds every 3 hours and of course saline spray and suction of the nose were the key! Also this may sound incredibly weird but her congestion was so terrible and nothing was working until a friend of mine said to buy this little vibrating “toy” (as in a Trojan vibrator from Walmart 😂) and put it up against her chest and and back in the middle like in between shoulder blades and stuff and the vibrations would break up the congestion and I tried it and it seriously worked! So if you’re ever dealing with severe congestion there’s an idea lol

@mrenee0217, that is not true. She needs to stay hydrated. Any fluids you can get in her at this point. If it’s milk, great. I even did diluted apple juice with my oldest when he had pneumonia. Anything he would drink. (Babies 1 and under need Breastmilk, formula or even a little pedialyte. Didn’t want there to be any confusion)

Are you able to rotate the ibuprofen and Tylenol? This is something that doctors recommend. I’m sorry she is not feeling well. I definitely understand what you are saying. I would take her in though. Just to be sure and ease your nerves
