Adoption: does anyone here have any personal experience with it? Specifically adoption through foster care. This is looking to be the best option financially for us.
DH and I have always wanted to adopt, and we’ve been talking and praying a lot more about it.
Just want some insight from first hand experience.

I'm interested in this info too! I'll be following this post.

I haven't personally done it but I worked with kids that have been in foster parents care. It's a very long process to adopt and getting a baby is rare. Most kids that go into the foster system are 3+. Every state has a different process definitely get in contact with the local dfs sooner than later

@massgirl, thanks! Our state has a program with “ready to adopt” kids. The heart gallery. And most of them are 4 and older. We are still a ways away— waiting to do a home study until we get our house built. But I do want to hear experiences of just all that comes along with it. Emotionally, behaviorally, which I know is different case to case.

@garay88, thanks so much for the response. I’d worry about this too if we were to be foster parents. I’m not sure if we would be foster parents or just adopt through foster care— the kids whose parents have given up their rights and are ready to adopt.

A close friend has three foster children now permanently adopted. It has been a long journey and they had three children before these three. The first child went back to his parents and the other two (sisters) the family couldn’t handle. All three they have adopted were under 4. Two of them siblings and one was a foster child from birth. There were and will continue to be a lot of obstacles for the siblings who experienced a lot of trauma. My friend also has 3 bio children of her own all older than the adopted. It’s something the entire family has to learn how to cope with and work with.
My view is this: anything is always going to be a learning process. Step by step. If you are able to and want to provide a home for a child in need, it is a noble thing but it will obviously require a lot of sacrifice, patience and communication with everyone involved. If you’re able to be with the children for the bulk of the day, I feel it’s a lot easier to know what each person will need bc you’ll be more sensitive to their attitudes and changes in behavior.
I remember you talking about this a while back! I’ll be praying for you guys! It’s also wonderful if you have a supportive community💕💜🙏

@phoebesmommy, thank you so so much! You’ve got a good memory! Lol
I do worry about the emotional tolls that will be there since these are children who’ve gone through hard times. On my own three kiddos as well.
It’ll still be a while, but I’ve been doing lots of adoption recently. I definitely want to hear real, raw stories though, not just the perfect testimonials online.

Yeah I surprise myself too with what I can remember 😂
I think the state and county you’re in also has a massive impact on the entire situation. So hopefully you guys can find some local groups to gather more insight into what the process is like in your area. Both my friend and another family in my local area say that out here they give bio parents a LOT of chances— almost to a fault.
