So I started working just before New Year. Same shifts. Nights, 32 hours a week. Work at night, baby all day, leaving me in a loop of 2 hours sleep. It's making me ill. Took 2 nights off because I caught flu and trying to nurse that off with the exaustion would be impossible. My job rang me saying my absence was unacceptable. I balled on the phone trying to explain that I'm ill/exausted and all I got back was "Yes, but Clare, I've got a business to run". So I felt a bit pressured to go in - whatever the state. Turned up the next day. My eyes and face were red raw and inflammed. I was sent to the works pharmacy who said I needed to see a doctor. A female supervisor with a one year old herself sent me home to rest after taking one look at me. I've been ill loads since I've started working again. It's like my immune system has gone walkabout. The lack of compassion from the office jobbies is really getting to me. I'm actually hoping they pull me into a meeting, there's stuff I want to say. "I've got a business to run", "Yeah, hun. You also have a duty of care. Trying to force sick people to work like we're bringing back slavery. TF?". I'm annoyed at myself for being so polite to her during her phonecall of pure rudeness and lack of regard but I can imagine I was too run down to bother putting up a fight - lost myself. Get me in an office now though and I'll be fighting with the passion of every new mother out there. Not asking for much to just be a little understanding. Hardly making anything better giving somebody whose already down a hard bloody time.

I honestly don't know how you do it but it sounds like your struggling. They are coming across a bit harsh and perhaps need to have a meeting and dicuss it in a more constructive way. At the same time if your continuously off then perhaps this isn't going to work. I don't know your options but if your making yourself ill is it worth it? Your body needs a certain amount of rest/ sleep or you'll stop being able to function and get really poorly.

I agree. I've been looking at other jobs. Long term doing what I've been doing will not work, I'd end up dead. I've had the two days off since being back but I've been poorly almost continuessly since starting work again. I'm going to speak to my doctor about it. It could just be because it's nights. If that's the case I'll get a day job - part time, sitter inbetween. Sorted. I'm trying to figure out solutions. Little by little. Can't see it working at all where I am now. They can't offer me any day shifts. I'll just look elsewhere.

If they could work something out with you that would be great. But if not and you have the option to look for day work I think it would be more beneficial for you. Night work is hard as it is but if your not getting enough rest then it's going to become impossible!

Go on entitledto and check your eligibility, if you fill all the form out, when It comes up your benefit entitlement on the last page, scroll to the bottom and theres a another 3 boxes, you can enter your working hours, your wage and the cost of childcare you pay for and it will tell you if/how much they will cover. As long as you are working over 16 hours a week they will cover 85% of any childcare costs. But bear in mind your OHs wage will be taken into consideration too (if you have one)

I'd definitely drop your hours if I were you and then put your little one with childcare for a few hours in the day so you can sleep x

@clarelushx Who's having your little girl currently while you're working nights? Is there any way someone could watch her for a few hours in the morning so you can catch up on some sleep? X

my boyfriend who works during the day. Leaves pretty much as soon as I get here and is back by 7pm, an hour before I gotta leave for work. I've asked about but everyone family related is working so it's an odd hour here or there that they can take her for. It's more draining running around packing and unpacking her bag for the sake of an hour or two. I need childcare to stick at this shift. Just for the full sleep. I try catch up on sleep on mine and my bfs rare shared days off but sleeping all day and night to catch up has the same effect haha leaves you knackered. It's okay I will eventually get back up from this cycle. It's only temporary. I can get childcare from Friday. That's 4 days away. And there's other option like slashing my hours. A new day time job ect. It's all fixable I've just got plod on a little longer x

definitely don't run yourself into the ground hun.. Your little one needs you to be on as best form as you can be, If that means cutting your hours or switching jobs. You only had a baby 6 months ago you're still recovering yourself. I hope you get something sorted xx

Or even if you had a babysitter for an hour or two when you get home so that you can use that time for sleeping xx

I work in retail. I unload wagons and stack shelves on the floor through the night. Really physical work. If I get brought in for a chat or something along that line which I was told could happen when I was sent home by my supervisor I'll hit you up on what I'd be better off saying but I think it's alright for now xx
