Married ppl with children..I have a tax question.... have you filed "Married filing separately" ? And if so did it affect your child credit refund amount? I read something that if I file MFS I won't get that credit..true? Idk if we both should file single or both MSF. I also still use my maiden name on everything, I haven't changed my ID or SS card to my married name. should file under my maiden name since that's what on my w2 ID ssn etc even if the certificate has my married name

I work for H&R Block, and we always always advise married people to file jointly. You may still receive that credit, but it would be much bigger if filed jointly.

My husband makes way too much money we played w the numbers and if we filed joint we will be owing. I make less so each year I file separate w my kiddos and I get back waaaaay more

Married jointly is not an option for us. So if we file married separately and I claim the kids, my refund for them would be the same as if I filed single claiming them?

So weird. We wouldn't be getting anything if we filed joint. Same as if he claimed the kids he would only get the child tax credits really. And we already filed so everything's good. Plus we do this every year and so did my mom and dad and they were married for years. My mom made way too much so my dad would claim the kids separate. Idk but I know my tax guy is super legit and I've never been audited w him at all. Was audited my 1st year filing w h&r block

@doubleksmommy that doesnt even make sense. My parents filed separate and my mom had 5 of us and always got back money. This is my 2nd year filing separate and this year my refund looks really good.
