I guess it depends on your definition of discipline. From the time my littles start ignoring "no" I redirect. My youngest hears "no" and she stops most of the time. If she doesnt I pick her up and give her something else to do or put her somewhere else that is safe. I dont say no unless it's a real issue.
She tore a book today while playing. I said no, and took it away. She cried but that's ok. Once the book was out of reach. I got her a fabric book, and a board book. Gave her a hug and told her to play with these books.
I use to do the same with my toddler. Now when I say no, he will sometimes ignore me but I call his name, walk over and get his attention and talk about what he could do instead. Today he was jumping on the couch. He knows he house rules and I asked him if he wanted to jump. He said yes. We put a couch cushion on the floor to jump on instead.
It doesnt always work perfectly. Sometimes things are a hard no and he just has to find something else to do. Sometimes he needs time to think about what he could do instead. At 7months I'd just give her something more appropriate to play with or put her in a safer location (exersauser, playpen, ect)

Nothing to do with your question. But We were going to name my daughter Amara. It was between Amara and Imani and we went with Imani. lol I still love Amara and was thinking of that name of this one was a girl.

From like 10months till like 18months we use Redirecting .
From 18months -24months we use Redirecting and talking . From 24months on we use time outs , reward/consequence system , early bedtimes , etc
We don’t use physical discipline with our children ...

Only “discipline” that should be used on a 7 month old is redirection. She’s learning boundaries and emotions, seeing what gets your attention whether it’s positive or negative. She doesn’t know that she’s doing something bad just that it gets your attention.
