Imagine how much harder it would be to differentiate ppl on record. If there are 30 Bob Smiths in your state, none have middle names and 5 were born in the same year.
I just assumed that would be the main purpose for them. Idk.
For identity purposes mainly I assume. I had an incident of identity theft and was only able to resolve it by my middle name since I have a common first and last name
I always use my middle name!! However my dh and my kids do not have middle names. My oldest couldn’t because he’s the 3rd so his name had to be exactly like his grandfather and father’s. And my 2nd I had a hard enough time coming up with his first name that I couldn’t think of a second name haha!!

My name has a long ass middle name my son has a simple one luckily it just went together but my daughters name doesn't have a middle name
