I need some tips on discipline with an almost 8 year old girl I have tried taking tablet and sending her to her room etc when I confront her about things she goes mute and ignores me I asked my nana if she did this at her house and she said yes
Definitely the therapist will help both of you. At 8 she is probably testing things. I'd look at her internet and gaming history. There is some shocking things out there and they are being stumbled upon by kids.
The more shocked you are about a behavior, the more likely it is to happen. I'd honestly tell her if she wants touch her private parts, she needs to go do that in her room or bathroom with the door closed. If she would like to talk to you, you are more then willing to talk.
If she is ignoring you. It's normal for 8 year olds to try this. I suggest you ask her to respond with a hand gesture (if she is busy or focused) and you will give her 1 minute to finish up before you call on her again. (Basically the same respect you would ask of her if you were busy). I would use a timer (from my phone) and just put it up for her to see it while you wait. If she doesn't respond after the 1mintue then take the tablet away and let her know how long she will be without it.
I didn’t have a tablet at 8 it’s so scary what these kids can find and their behavior from having these devices
She definitely sounds like she's pushing the boundaries and seeing how much she can get away with. Don't give in, keep being firm with what is ok and what is not on your house. As for smacking her privates with the brush, maybe she did it once out if stupidity and saw it pissed you off and is now doing it just to get a bite out of you? She's had a big change in her life and is testing the waters with you. All you can do is stand your ground and tell her behaviour like that is totally inappropriate. Maybe sit her down and have a chat to her and ask her why she's doing these things and see what she says. She's old enough to comprehend, so maybe see if she will tell you why she's acting out like that.
My nana said she does that private part stuff at her house as well
@boymom123 oh really? I have no idea then. You taking her to a therapist is probably the best thing you can do for her then, to see what's really driving her to act this way. It must be so hard for you! I commend you for taking it on though
Be very clear on what you expect from her, make sure she knows what your rules and boundaries are and be clear about them. Be consistent and don’t give in. It might seem like you’re always nagging her at first, but once she sees that you mean business it’ll get easier and you won’t have to remind her as much. Also giving her chores and responsibilities is helpful. We started this from the beginning with our daughter. She has rules, boundaries, we’ve taught her right from wrong, and she has age appropriate chores and responsibilities too and she’s a pretty well behaved almost 3 year old because of it!
@katemmy, she’s pretty much going to be permanently living with us by next month but she’s beeen soooo misbehaved we are staying very consistent in trying to figure out what bothers her and using that
@boymom123, that will be so helpful! My step son used to be with us all the time and he was sooo much better in the behavioral department then his mom decided to start taking him and he’s just been a nightmare. I’m sure you’ll get it turned around in no time! Good luck!
@katemmy I was going through something similar with step son too. Consistancy is definitely key. You just have to show them that what's acceptable at their mother's place, is definitely not ok at yours. I know how hard it is though. He has ADHD and is on the spectrum too, so it made it tough going for us
Let her know you’re there when she wants to talk to you. She’s proli super confused. Just stick to your guns don’t give in. She will think she can get away with it next time, whatever it is.
@boymom123, is it possible she was?
@damn.it.red, oh and I doubt she hasn’t seen boy parts my nana adopted 6 kids and fosters one two are girls the rest are boys
@damn.it.red, my nana knows nothing about it she said so I’m having her see a therapist

is it wrong to be frustrated that my daughter acts like she can't do certain things with out my help. she plays dumb a lot and I wish I could be like no girl show what you know. she acts like she can't trace or match shapes so shes ask for "mommy finger" to help her so I barely hold her hand and she magically can do it but if I dont hold her hand she just scribbles and acts like she doesnt know
the pic is how she traces when I'm "helping her" otherwise it'll just be scribbles all over the page
Dad's FB Video!!
Did anyone see that video a dad posted on his daughters FB page? He saw a post she made where she bashed her parents and cursed them, called them lazy and told them they should pay her for stuff she did around the house... So he called her out on it and put the video on her page!! Sorry if I missed a post already about this already, but I just saw the video and IT WAS AWESOME!!! Hahahhaa!
I just absolutely love some women on here! Some woman wants to write on another women's post telling her she shouldn't be having sex at all in the beginning of pregnancy. I didn't know she was her doctor. Then she wants to tell me that the first trimester is only 1-9 weeks pregnant. And she lost her baby at 4 weeks pregnant due to sex. Like sweetie that's your period starting!
I can't take it anymore! Haley (yes my 1mth old and no I wasn't able to go through this "joy" of nursing my older daughter, Molly) has been screaming non stop for 6hrs! All she wants to do is eat and I can't have her attached to me all day, everyday! She has wanted to eat every hr on the hr for the past 3hrs! I put her in her room so I don't scream at her but I just can't take it!
Me neither. I work with kids and have heard and seen some of the things they have found 😫
What we tell them is to let an adult know what they find or if they have questions about what they see. Some of the videos on YouTube which are targeted to kids and teens are made by adults and with some strange and disturbing content.
We always tell the kids that if something seems strange or worrying to tell their trusted adult. Some have been bullied and subject to horrific language and behaviors, then they feel scared to tell their parents for risk of losing the device or favourate game. We often need to coach everyone through how to support and deal with this situations because its different for each family, situation, and child. Your therapist will help alot with communication and support. You are doing the right thing.
