When I talk to other moms about our kids milestones, I get nasty looks and judgmental comments. Yes I have a very verbal and capable child. Her development doesn’t have anything to do with your child’s. Everyone grows and develops at their own rate.

Before we moved to where we live now I used to feel very uncomfortable talking about the things my daughter did or said to my neighbor moms who had kids her age because I felt like they thought I was bragging about her. It was a very uncomfortable topic for me

That’s how I feel. And it makes me feel bad because I’m apologizing for her skills and she doesn’t deserve that. She should never be shown that she should feel bad about her accomplishments. If other moms are talking about their children’s milestones I can’t join or I’m “bragging”

@jhalsted1995 yup, I feel ya girl. I've been there done that. I just stopped talking about it and if they said stuff about their kids I'd just got off the phone with the conversation and say that yeah my daughter did that too. I mean my daughter was 1 by the time she was able to recite the alphabet all on her own. She's five now and can read a little bit she writes she can do basic math she loves to learn things especially about space or the human body. My daughter is extremely smart and sometimes I wish I could talk to other people about it but it's uncomfortable because of what I went through with my old neighbors

It's like this with me and my mans step sister of sorts. I can't say anything about my son because hers isn't at the same level and her son's six months older than mine and won't speak at all. So I can't talk about the things Henry says or does like when he sings or points to a book and tells us all the animals, numbers, shapes, etc. Because she gets huffy and then has to make it about how her son doesn't do those things. And then she'll even say to him "why can't you just learn from Henry? He talks, why can't you?" And I just feel so embarrassed for the kid because she'll get bitter with him about it.

@rariszoo, she should be using speech therapy techniques in everyday conversation with him if she is worried about his speech development.

@jhalsted1995 she's got him with a speech therapist but when when he makes noise to get her attention she shushes him like he's being too loud so it's like he thinks he shouldn't talk along with the speech stuff.
