Did anyone have pets when bringing home the LO? If you’re kids are a little older how did that turn out? I have a 7 y/o…

I kept a pack and play in the living room so the dogs could be around the baby. I don't think we ever had problems. When we put him down on the floor someone was always there and the dogs knew they could lay by him but not pester.

Our older dog, a lab, was obsessed her. He would literally check on her. Sometimes beat me to her if she were crying. Always laid next to her. Once we got her on the floor we had to watch them closely as he would get too excited. Wanted to lick her. We would make him lay down away from her. He finally learned to keep his distance. My little dog, a Yorkie, was depressed when she came home with us and wanted nothing to do with her. We would hold her while we got closer and closer to baby. Had to work our way up without stressing her. Eventually she started getting close to her on her own. Now they are best friends and the older boy dog avoids her as much as possible lol

We have 2 dogs that were both around before our son. Our older dog was a little wary and kept her space for a bit, but now that he's old enough to give her food and throw her ball they are BFFs. Our younger dog loved him from the minute he came home and still does. We made sure they both had a chance to be in the room with him when we brought him home, but didn't force interaction. Just keep an eye on the body language and make sure the dogs have a place to back off to if they feel stressed.
