Rant: Let’s keep it real, a SO or husband who works outside the home gets a break! Don’t come home and think I’m not taking a break from our home, aka my job too! Don’t have an attitude with me because I’m tired because I was up most of the night with our son who had night terrors so I could make sure you got the rest you needed. Don’t wake me up from what little sleep I do get because you’re like a deer in the headlights in a clean house and can’t find things, LOOK!!!
I sleep less than you do, I exercise more than you do, I keep our toddler busy and happy and well exercised. I’ve been helping out your family since your Dad fell, driving 230 miles a day when I do go to the Bay and yet I’m still financially contributing to our home. All I ask for on your days off is a 2.5 hours to go to the gym and lift weights and a few hours away from my home aka work space to clear my head and get ready for the next 5 days ahead. If I have those 4-6 hours a week I’m set!
These are the days I miss having a wifey to hide out and snuggle with. I’m so irritated that I think my personal time today will be a trip to the gun range to let a few rounds off....

I’m sorry you’re so upset. I really don’t think someone who works outside of the home gets a “break” per say, but if they’re not contributing equally when they are at home then it can feel that way to their partner. Hopefully you can get your message across to him & he can support you a little better! You deserve it.

This is our dilemma also but me and my husband worked out a thing to where he gets to relax when he gets home and still helps with the kids every now and again because I wake him up during the night to do bottles and on the weekends I get to sleep in and he takes care of the kids if I wanted to go do something which I never do because I always feel bad but I still get to sleep in at least and take a shower in peace. We work hard to and just because we're asleep doesn't mean we're off the job either we still have to wake up so from the time that we close our eyes the time we open them we are working and studies show that we should be getting paid over $200,000 a year for our stay-at-home job. If they were going to a daycare he would have to pay and that's just only for a couple of hours. It took my husband a little bit of time to be able to actually realize you know that we get tired also so when he started taking on at least Saturday with the boys he realized that it is a lot of work and that's when we agreed to I have weekends off technically not really but I at least have some time to myself lol

I was just diagnosed with a bout of chronic fatigue after going for three months straight and having a bad bout of insomnia so his attitude towards me this morning isn’t flying. I actually do need my rest right now more than in recent months. We actually do sit down every other week and schedule both of our “me time” and our family time etc. He works and does the budget and anything technology related and I do everything else. We’ve been together 21 years so it’s usually not an issue, we work stuff out. I grew up as an only child, I need and crave a tiny bit of space and he’s an introvert so we both get each other and work through it. It just seems to me that we go through a phase every once in a while where he wants to ignore my needs for a week and it’s when I need my rest and space the most. It always balances out but because I’m usually really sweet and roll with whatever punches are given to me, sometimes I have to be a complete bitch to get my point across. It sucks.

I am the bread winner for my family. Yes going out is different because it is a change of scenery. That being said, it takes a lot to work a full day then have to keep going strong once you get home. I appreciate the work my dh does at home. I've been a stay at home mom before and I know the hard work it entails. I don't think it's fair to say one is easier than the others, both jobs are challenging in their very unique ways.

I do see both sides on this one. I was in diabetic ketoacidosis and had sepsis 3 years ago. He had to take over my role for 7.5 weeks. He said he was way more tired from being at home than his job. He said he’s amazed at how I do it all because he was too whooped and the house was still a mess but I couldn’t help him at all lol. I also get that he does have an intense job so I make sure he doesn’t have to lift a finger during his work week. He comes home to food, a drink, a warm clean house, slippers ready to go and very likely a sleepy or already asleep child. I get that he needs rest to properly function too so I make sure he gets that. Even when we had an infant he didn’t have to get up with me or anything. I did all the feedings, diaper changes, up all night during teething, first cold, all that...
I am actually an equal financial contributor in my house but it’s not as time consuming. We agree what we have going is fair as long as we both get the time we need to care for ourselves and in the last 4 months I haven’t gotten quite enough and it’s finally led to this weird place where I’m caught up in my Piscean feels about it. My illness 3 years ago reminded us that If we don’t take that time then we aren’t effective caregivers for our children. I’m all about finding balance and right now not feeling supported in my needs with the chronic fatigue I’m going through. I’m always the one to be positive until I’m run down. Finding balance is a bitch. My life’s mission but a bitch

My husband retired from the Army so we both stay home. But he acts like I'm still required to do all of my wifely duties while he just sits there and plays the game 🙄. NO! We are both in the house the same amount of hours (well him more because I get the kids ready for school by myself and take them and pick them up. I also do all grocery shopping and errands) so we should BOTH be cleaning and helping with the kids. He won't even attempt to help with the baby and his idea of helping with the boys is driving them to sports practice and sit in the car on his phone while I'm home cleaning and cooking. I tried working but when I'd get home, my house was a mess, he'd hand me the baby and then disappear for the rest of the night playing the game 😥 I'm stuck right now.

I’m sorry honey. I do have more help than that. I think my husband forgot me more than doubled our space and I have a yard to maintain too. Last few times I’ve had a break I’ve ended up using it to get other things done. I see both sides to the issue at hand but for some reason I find a lot of men can’t do that unless they’re stuck and have no choice

I agree. His idea of giving me a break is "I'll keep the kids so you can go to the grocery store alone" 😑😑 GEE THANKS. Lol I'm still doing wife/mom duties. That's not "me" time. & If the boys are at school and I ask him to keep the baby he says "why don't all 3 of us just go together?" Because he doesn't want to watch her 😥 I'm jealous you have a yard! My backyard sucks and I've been asking hubby to fix it up so I can garden lol that's not gonna happen

that used to be the break I would get before my health scare. Now he keeps Zay for up to a couple days if I take off. I’m craving a Vegas run matter of fact! Also, my bestie is coming to help me with my yard/garden once a month. I go help her with hers and the exchange is free food. If you have a friend who likes to garden, you guys should consider helping each other out. We spend so much money on the healthier food in grocery stores! Hubby might get on board after he sees the hard work and the payout and savings. Look up gardening tips in your area to see what grows best in your area and go from there.
