What Are the Best Car Seat Options for a 3-Year-Old Traveling to the Dominican Republic?
Car seat ideas please.
I’ll be traveling to the Dominican Republic with my husband and daughters. I’ll have the carrier car seat for my infant but I’m trying to figure out what to bring for my 3yr old(she’ll be 3 1/2 yrs by the time we’re traveling ) I saw myfold on amazon, it’s like a portable car seat or a booster but both of those are from 4yrs old. I’ve been looking if I can book a taxi there with a car seat but can’t find one. Here in the US I’ll be parking my car at the airport so I have no issues with the car seats. What are some things you ladies used for a toddlers car seat?

3.5 is definitely not old enough for a booster like that. I'd recommend a cosco finale. A 5pt harness is needed

I agree with the cosco finale. I’d definitely bring my own rather than renting. The DR doesn’t have the same car seat laws that we have so you might run into a chance of them not having any available.

I took the diono radian car seat from my husbands car with me in a travel backpack that was padded. It folds so it was easy to store. It’s heavy like 35lbs heavy but it was much easier than the one in my car and it’s TSA approved.

I don’t think DR has any car safety laws in any way shape or form. This is from what I saw when I visited

@laniejay, @amouryaya09, @fairykarmamomma, @kbbaybee16, I have a full size car seat for her I just thought there might be easier options. My husband says to take the shuttle instead, he says it’s safer but I don’t think the shuttle even has seatbelts so how would I even attach a car seat?

Yeah that’s the thing I’m not sure. Most of the public transportation out there doesn’t have seat belts. I’ve taken airport shuttles in the US and had to hold my son the whole time. It’s not very car seat friendly.

@amouryaya09, yeh we traveled with our first daughter before the second one was born. It’s like a hit or miss with the car cabs sometimes they’re nice and sometimes crappy. The shuttle I’ve only taken once in the US and I also had to hold my daughter

Most shuttles don't allow for installation of car seats, you can certainly call/email and ask. When we traveled to Aruba, I had to track down and reserve one of the 4 taxis that were able to install car seats

So after a lot of searching I’ve found transportation with a car seat. It has a lot of good reviews and they provide a car seat for children 1yr-6yr. I’ll post a picture in case anyone else has the same dilemma as me. Thank you ladies for all your ideas.

Isn't it crazy how safety standards aren't across the board? Safety doesn't take a vacation. We actually got close with our taxi driver and have gotten 2 safe seats to him in Aruba and my parents are bringing 6 more when they go with a group of friends.

yes it is. That should be a standard everywhere. I’m happy you guys have a solution for your vacation. I was stressing so much about the car seat and I’m happy I finally found them because whenever we traveled before we just had the carrier car seat so it was never an issue, even though some of the cabs were questionable... but now I feel very confidant with this company.
