Okay mommas I need some advice. I talked to my doctor today and she suggested switching my birth control. I'm on the progesterone only pill and am having problems controlling my weight and it is making my periods be extremely irregular and painful. She suggest either Mierena or Nexplanon. I'm leaning more towards Mirena, but still not completely sure. Do any of you have either of these and what do you think of them.

I have nexplanon. I really like it so far. They told me I could bleed for a while after it was put in but my period stopped that day. I haven't had a real period since. I do spot when I'm stressed or have a day where it seems like I'm on my period but it never lasts more than a day and a half or so. It has given me Terrible acne though and I noticed my hair gets greasy by the end of the day (I shower every morning) but other than that it's great. I'd take the spotting over a real period any day. I'm terrible at taking pills so the pill wasnt an option for me. My sister had the mirena and hated it. She constantly had to have a pad or tampon on because her discharge was crazy.

This really helps me thank you. I'm pretty good at taking pills but I feel like these birth control pills are doing more harm than good. The only good thing about them is I haven't gotten pregnant and it doesnt make my blood pressure go up. My doctor said that either one of these would help control my weight which is a big thing to me. I've gained quite a bit with the pills and I'm self conscious now

I've struggled with my weight as well so I know it can be hard. It hasn't effected my weight at all and I've been on it for over 9 months now.

I don't have either but I've heard real good things about Mirena, my niece had the nexplanon and she bled for a while, too long actually, ended up making her really sick and needing transfusions

I had nexplanon in for 3 year and loved it. I didn’t notice any changes in my cycle or body with it and when we decided to take it out I was pregnant by the next month. If I don’t get my tubes tied with this baby then I may consider it again.

I’m going on year 2 with Nexplanon. I haven’t had a period , no complaints besides some weight gain but not too bad.

If you are having problems with the progesterone only pill, don't do the mirena. Its a progesterone IUD and you will probably just have the same symptoms. I hated my Mirena.

The only problem is I can only have progesterone I cant have estrogen, so I'm kind of limited. I talked it over with my Obgyn and she said that the symptoms wont be as bad because the hormone is mainly in my uterus and not going through my entire body.
