I just feel like it’s an unnecessary step. He learned to eat perfectly fine eating regular food and he has always loved trying new tastes and textures. Some people are just more comfortable with purées because it’s more common, but BLW was great for us!
With my first we did baby food at 6 months. With my second we skipped baby food and did baby led weaning at 7 months. He wanted real food and he is my good eater.
My first son kept opening his mouth when I’d be eating so I tried with a clean spoon and he opened his mouth so I made him homemade baby food I think the first thing I made was puréed peas and he loved it. I was always scared to Introduce solids but my aunt kind of did it without asking me and he ate so well and that was at 8 mo the so I’m sure he couldn’t be started sooner. Every kiddo is different
Thanks ladies, my mom is telling me that I should start giving her tastings and gerber.. but I just wanted to make sure since I forgot when I started with my middle child lol
We don’t do Gerber unless it’s organic. We started a week before 6 months with oatmeal cereal and then I made my own purees. He wasn’t super in to it until about 7.5 months. He loves the baby food pouches so I send those with the babysitter since she’s always on the go. Now he’s 9 months and we’re doing finger foods and he’s doing really well so far. It took him a while to learn to chew and not gag though. Definitely wait until at least 6 months, closer to 8 if you want better results. Baby should be able to hold up her head, sit upright, and open her mouth for the food, and not spit it out. It can take some time.

We skipped any type of purée food. We did baby led weaning starting a week before 6 months because he showed all signs of readiness.

Is there any reason why you skipped the purées?

We skipped purées and went straight to what we were eating when my daughter turned 6 months old.
