Had my six week checkup last Monday and at the time I had a pap smear done. They called me today and told me I had some abnormal lab results and that I tested positive for HPV...how is that even possible when I got the Preventive vaccine at age 13. Now I’m all worried, I just want to be able to see my daughter grow older and accomplish great things.

Vaccines aren’t definite. They don’t 100% protect against things.

Sadly the vaccines only protect against 90% of the strains of HPV. Hopefully it's just a false positive.

So have them redo your test and ONLY the hpv testing.
Eta: the ss is from a reputable source (https://medicine.umich.edu/dept/family-medicine/news/archive/201807/harper-tells-npr-women-over-30-hpv-test-alone-may-decrease-rates-false-positives-compared-combined)

I was told to schedule a copol, idk what that is exactly

Colposcopy : a procedure to closely examine your cervix, vagina and vulva for signs of disease. During colposcopy, your doctor uses a special instrument called a colposcope.

they will also snip off any spots that are questionable I think.

Also, sometimes HPV just goes away and you're perfectly fine. Mine did.

Thank you @youre.kickin.me.schmalz, and @mychemicalshaymance, really helpful. I’ve just been a nervous wreck since I got the call! I had a pap at the beginning of my pregnancy and they found nothing. I’m praying it was a false positive!

I've heard some women with false positives so I wanted to shed some light. Glad I could ease your mind a little. 💗
