Any breastfeeding mamas have any tips on pumping at work?
I go back February 12 and I’m an exclusive pumper having major anxiety about pumping at work. I’m a nurse and don’t always get breaks and idk how I’m going to do it.
Any tips?

@kalidream oh man! I work 9. Arent they required by law to give you pumping breaks? Your main concern would be your supply dropping cuz your not pumping enough while at work.
@kaitlinl20, I believe we are required to have breaks but we don’t get them... it’s a pain really. I’m trying to keep my supply up.
@kalidream yes that would be hard, yes definitely want to keep your supply up!
Pump early in the morning because that’s when you have the most milk. Then pump every 3-4 hours after that. I pump twice at work but it definitely takes time so you’ll have to allow about 30 minutes per session. Then each day mix a little frozen milk into your fresh milk for the bottles that way you keep your frozen milk rotated. If you’re still coming up short try to pump a little on weekends.
I’m worried because of the fact that I may not have the time to pump at work every 3-4 hours and definitely not for 30 min. I know for a fact I would be able to pump on my lunch but not sure about any time after that or before that. I work 12-16 hour days 5-7 days a week.
@kalidream, you won’t be able to keep your supply up if you only pump once in 12 hours. You will need to tell everyone when your designated pumping breaks are and they need to let you stick to it. I pump at 6am, 10am and 3pm. I have no supply issues and my baby is 8.5 months.
Try to build up a small stash while you are out on leave. That’ll relieve some of your anxiety knowing you have a stash. I only was able to pump once during the 9-10 hours I was away from my son (elementary teacher, can’t leave my class to pump). I didn’t have an issue pumping 9-10oz on my lunch break. My son did nurse a lot during the night so I’m sure that helped keep my supply up. You may need to wake and pump a few times a night to maintain your supply if you don’t get many pump breaks. If you are working 8 hours, I would pump 3x while you are there. I usually pump at 9am, 12pm, and 3pm. But right now my son is refusing the bottle again so I go to his daycare and nurse him on my lunch.
