ISO toddler advice:

My almost 1.5 year old has not been eating as much as usual during our sit down feedings. I offer three meals and snacks in between. He chugs his morning oj and the milk i offer. Takes a few bites, then says, “All done.”

I try to encourage bites between sips, or try to get him excited for another bite. Even with his snacks.

Soft, baby food has helped substitute some food. I cant tell if he is bored of the food or is full. He is showing no other symptoms. Healthy diapers.

Have you experienced fazes like this w/ your lo?

How did you respond to help them eat more?

My daughter stopped eating at 18 months. She’d be all done after 4 bites. We tried everything but she stayed that way until about 3.5 then started eating more, but it still takes some effort. She’s very skinny but she’s growing and her doctors have never been worried. Some kids just don’t like to eat. Keep offering and try to make it fun.

My son has sensory issues with food so we’ve had to see a pediatric nutritionist and are in occupational therapy. One of the things I was surprised by is the calories a toddler needs, the nutritionist said it was 1,200 at most for my 2.5 year old. Spread out over a day, those are pretty small meals. But some other things we’ve tried to keep focus on eating are naming the colors of all the foods, counting everything, singing songs at the table. Just stuff to keep our some more engaged at the table and wanting less to get down and play. He does go through eating phases also. One week he’ll want all the food everywhere, and others just a few bites and he’s done.

He could be overwhelmed by the amount of food in front of him. Also don’t offer anything to drink before he has eaten because the liquid is making him full and not wanting to eat.

Understanding appropriate serving sizes may help you. My son used to eat like a tank and, out of nowhere, started eating way less. Toddlers only need 1 oz of meat/protein and 1-2 tbsps of the other food groups to meet their nutritional needs. If your son is at least getting that much, I wouldn't be concerned. It is just a phase. He will go through a growth spurt at some point and start eating nonstop again. If you are desperate, put sauce on his food. We buy organic ketchup and my son will eat anything if it has ketchup on it. Don't get discouraged. You're doing great!

Try to not offer liquids first till he eats enough. My child will not eat enough if she drinks her milk first because she gets full from that.

My son is 14 months tomorrow and we can hardly get him to eat solid foods on his own. We want to wean him off formula by 18 months and have been trying to get him to snack on small finger foods and he mainly just plays with it or throws it off his tray. Sometimes he will eat it if we give it to him but most of the time he shakes his head no. Any ideas or tips on how to get him more interested in eating? He will eat yogurt bites and cherrios on his own but that's about it.

Mommies my 15 month old takes long naps. From about 11:30am to about 2:30pm. So his lunch is around 3. I try ro feed him a big lunch so hes full for a while but then around 7pm for dinner he wont eat much. Is that normal? His bedtime is 8-8:20pm. I feel like if he doesn't eat dinner then he'll go to bed hungry but doesn't show it. At dinner time he does munch off our food but wont eat a plate of his own. I also give snacks through out the day.

Josiah’s teacher sent me a message through ClassDojo today saying that he seems bored with sandwiches and to try sending something else... he eats breakfast at home, then again once he gets to school 🙄 their lunch is at 11 but they get a snack in between breakfast and lunch. How much do they expect him to eat?! I feel like they just want me to send money so he can eat cafeteria food smh
