Any natural mamas out there? I'm thinking I dont want them to put the antibiotic in the babies eyes after he/she is born..

Also any opinions on doctors wiping off the vernix when the baby is born? I also want to delay umbilical cord detachment

My doctor said, you can also postpone both for a few hours. I’m thinking I won’t do the ointment or get her wiped off at all or maybe do it, after she’s a few hours old.

This is also something I'm thinking of. Like, I dont wanna run the risk of any infections. But....... there is scientific proof that eye contact with your baby the first few hours after birth plays a huge role on how they develope, to be specific the contact produces love chemicals (oxytocin) which is vital for the babys developement.

@petals, the eye ointment it’s really the hospitals routine. They have steps they take with all babies. But doesn’t mean all babies need it. Bring it up with your doctor a few times. I don’t think I’ll even be doing the vitamin e shot.

Ooh I would also love to hear about alternatives to the antibiotics on the eyes! We’re going to leave the vernix alone until her umbilical stump falls off and we give her the first bath.

I've read that in clinical trials they used three drops of breast milk as a safer alternative to reduce infections
