The obgyn CANCELLED MY ZOFRAN PRESCRIPTION and decided to give me Benadryl! Wtf I'm not allergic to anything I just wanna eat!
Update: after waiting 4.5hrs I finally got some meds! Got an IV of saline to rehydrate me so I'm not a raisin anymore, got some liquid zofran in my bag as well and they'll give me a month supply of pill zofran to take with me

They may have cancelled it because zofran can be dangerous to your baby. I took it a few times with my first until I found out. It’s been known to cause heart defects. Maybe see if they’ll give you diclegis instead since that’s a bit safer.

Zofran is how my daughter and I are alive right now. She's a happy and healthy 16mth old

Benadryl is often used for nausea. Or some doctors use hydroxyzine.

Benadryl is similar to unisom/b6 in its antiemetic properties, but if you’re that sick they should be giving you something more intense. I understand the idea of not taking Zofran unless necessary, but a lot of us with severe MS and HG, myself included, have no other medication that helps and the risk associated with a severely dehydrated and extremely sick mother are bad to a developing baby too. Heart defects CAN happen, but are still extremely rare, so there’s the argument of which is worse in those of us that need medical intervention. I’m glad they got something that works for you mama.

I totally get it. I have had HG with both of my pregnancies. Nothing worked the first time around. This time diclegis is working. I just feel it’s important to spread the word if she didn’t know about the risks because rare or not, she deserves to be aware.

oh I’m not saying at all that zofran should be the first option. I’m not familiar with her story or if she had exhausted all options, and hopefully any OB would cover potential risks.

Yeah Benadryl is not just used for allergies...no need to freak out. Doctors generally do things for a reason and are highly educated. The risks to your baby are less with the Benadryl so you could have given it a shot first before the zofran.
Some of us have HG our whole pregnancies and our doctors don’t just jump to zofran first at 5 weeks gestation. I had to exhaust every option before they prescribed that and I understand why. I had to do Diclectin and 3 others before we went to zofran.

@armywife72515, Zofran doesn’t keep you alive...knowing it works for you doesn’t mean you should use it in your first trimester when every pregnancy is different. It’s called being dramatic rather then trying the other options you threw a hissy about B12 because you wanted the zofran when clearly the doctor thought trying other options first was best. But you know better then the doctor clearly with your doctorate in medicine right? Just like you think your smarter then everyone and assume no one remembers you trapped your husband? Then complained about how you’d be a single mom when he’s away yet you knew he didn’t want another kid yet so you basically set yourself up for that🤨 Or like how your posting bump pics when your baby is the size of a seed...come on now.

I know my body and remember from experience from my first, but yes I believe that zofran kept us alive. When I ran out I was in the toilet all day til I was puking stomach acid cause I couldn't eat! I'd have to go back to the ER so I could get rehydrated and then the ER would fill out the prescription of zofran cause the midwife wouldn't!

I don't think zofran is generally recommended in the first trimester. My CNM group didn't prescribe it to me until my 2nd trimester. I tried several things they recommended first including unisom and B6. When that didn't work, I was finally diagnosed with HG and given zofran.

@optimusprimesmom, This is baby number 4 for us and I’m also a L&D nurse so I’m pretty familiar with HG now this pregnancy but thanks ☺️❤️

Just in case my message was misconstrued earlier, I also had to try 3 other medications, both over the counter and prescribed, before I was offered zofran, and at that point I had lost 10% of my body weight and was on the verge of hospitalization. I am in no way advocating for the immediate offering of zofran, there are less potentially risky options. As I stated in my first comment if there are no other medications that work and if your OB has offered and suggested those and you’re still needing fluids then sometimes it’s what’s necessary. That’s all! Lol I don’t want to be seen as a crazy zofran pusher 😂

I don't think you are. I had used all options the first time tried mints, soup tea, ginger everything and zofran was the only thing that worked and what kept us alive. That's why I asked for zofran this time cause I know it works for me.
