I am so beyond stressed out. We’ve been struggling to find work and have been living off my daughters ssi for rent which I’m still going to be $35 short on and my child $64 a week support for my car payment which is still not enough. We are flat broke just spent the last $40 I had on my link card for a week of groceries until we get our link month on the 7th. Idk how I’m gonna make this stretch but I just got s bunch of noodles etc. I am beyond depressed. Can’t pay bills can’t find work can’t find help barely able to feed my family at the moment. I just wanna hide in bed and say screw it. But that’s not an option, my kids need me. I’m just so done y’all I can’t handle this anymore it’s been this way for almost 3 months when will I catch a damn break.
Question...why did you get another cat if you're struggling? You have 2 others as well?
Hang in there momma. Weve been there before. It's much easier to find a job when you have a job for some reason. Have him go out of his comfort zone. Hospitals will hire for environmental services at no experience. Night shift gets extra and you dont have to deal with people. Telecommunications companies usually hire you if you just apply. They are generally desperate because no one wants to do it. Go to the zoo for clean up crew. Stop at mom and pop shops (garages, metal shops, convenient stores, restaurants, grocery stores) and ask if you can do anything like clean the bathroom, stock shelves, take out trash. Go to lumber stores and ask if they need help unloading/moving stock. Find places that are moving (like an rv or car dealership) and ask if they need help loading their equipment. Places that usually hire anyone are like
-metals
-fencing
-Telecommunications
-yard maintenance
-janitors
Heck even if its digging holes for the cemetery.
You could go to dollar tree (do they have those? Any dollar store.) And get stuff to make wreaths. You buy $10 worth of materials and sell a wreath for 30-60. You can do any kind of craft really, wreaths are just easy.
Go to churches, all the churches. Chances are someone will have a job lead. They can also help with clothing, food, Bill's and even rent. Some even offer gas cards.
Goodwill has job offering services too. (Not sure if you have one of those.)
We have a place called emergency infant services. They help with food, clothes, furniture, formula, ect. Check for something like that.
Ask the community. If you dont have a Facebook make one. Go to a community page and ask for help. There is always going to be someone who has extra of something and is willing to help out. Even if it's just knowledge about resources to help.
Theres help out there. Dont loose hope momma. You did this for the best for your babies. You will figure it out, you can do it. But you have to stay strong.
HAVE YOU APPLIED FOR ASSISTANCE ? If not do it now it's a lot faster if you go to the main office .
My guess is she already gets assistance that’s what the link card is.
@mb2424, yea I have link luckily which is food stamps just waiting for the 7th when we get our new month
Janitorial work almost requires no certification. I work for a big company, some of our janitors cannot even speak english. They understand just a little bit. Yet they have been hired on as either part time or full time after they got in through a temp agency.
Is he doing something during his interviews that could possibly affect why he has not gotten hired? From maybe grooming, to clothing, attitude?
Goodluck on your interview tomorrow!
I know temp agencies don't keep you forever. I understand how they work. There is a possibility to get hired on though. My husband started his last job through a temp agency before they hired him on full time. But when I ask if he's ever had steady employment, I don't mean just having jobs through a temp agency. That obviously isn't steady employment if he keeps getting laid off. Sorry, I'm just trying to understand how he got in this current situation.
He had a good job at the dc but then we moved 2 hours away thinking it would be easier in a bigger city which obviously hasn’t worked out so far
Go to local churches. They often have food banks and resources.
Alpine access and convergys are at home customer service companies is. The pay is usually minimum wage but they are ALWAYS hiring
Places hiring:
ALDI
Buffalo Wild Wings
Party City
ROSS
Kohls
Panera Bread
Home Depot
Applebees
GameStop
Target
Dollar General
@mychemicalshaymance, pretty much yes not every single place but Most yes including dishwashing etc. it’s easy to sit and say oh there’s so many jobs but getting one is a different story. Wish I had luck that we could get hired anytime we apply but the reality is it doesn’t work that way. I posted on her because I needed a safe space to vent but apparently it’s just somewhere for others to put down belittle or make feel worse. I appreciate the nice comments and people trying to help. I’m not trying to sound rude I’m just beyond stressed and no one to talk to so I thought I’d come here to vent a little.
@queenmeeks, that’s what I’m telling him and he’s trying it’s just not working. I’m crossing my fingers for my interview. He’s done side work detailing cars for a couple here but they’re super slow and he only gets half so about 25 per car if that but again it’s been super slow so not reliable albeit helps a bit but just isn’t enough
@kandaceteresa I don't see how asking for more information or providing information is putting down or belittling but okay.
He has to put the effort in. Call more than once. No response after 2 weeks, apply again. It's all about persistence.
Trust me my mom is trying to find work my husband has a job and he pulled all his money out of his bank account from his paycheck and my grandma has to pay the phone bill and we have to find away to pay power and I’m pulling out $400 for rent and we might have to ask neighbor for help with power and when my husband gets his big paycheck he’s have to pull out $100 for phone bill and pay garbage, power online and we have get a $25 dollar money order because we have to get my sons birth certificate we’re have to get a bunch of groceries on Thursday and I get my wic for my son formula and some food and my food stamps on the 7th and get a bunch of baby food and formula for my son and a bunch of food and we sometimes go to food boxes and we don’t have a car right now so we walk everywhere
He wasn't at his last job long enough for unemployment... not being rude, but has he never had steady work?
Yes. Temp places tend to let you go once the job is completed usually before the limit for unemployment.
I dont know how you feel about factory work but places like that are always hiring and its usually decent money.
He always did factory but he’s not been able to find anything it’s all through temp service and he hasn’t gotten anything through them they don’t have openings that don’t require certifications
@kandaceteresa, he should be able to get certified through the company. They usually say you have x amount of days to get it and most of the time they will pay for it. Have him still apply. Walmart’s are always hiring targets. Just apply and apply. Also hospitals have him look at janitorial work. Maybe have him not look at temp agency and go direct. Temp agency’s take a cut anyways.
What happened to the last job either of you had? Was that left for a reason?
He was temp and was laid off he was the only one working I usually stay home with the kids. Problem is he can’t get unemployment because he wasn’t there long enough.
@kandaceteresa what about applying for assistance like TANF?
@nathanswifey08 yes, definitely apply for assistance! Great advice I forgot to add to my comments.
Question...why did you get another cat if you're struggling? You have 2 others as well?
She was going to be thrown in the cold I wouldn’t let that happen, I already had a huge bag of cat food so that wasn’t an issue for us.
@mychemicalshaymance, we’re more than likely going to have to rehome her anyway she doesn’t get along with our cats and is scared of the kids but I took her for now so she wasn’t left for dead. I’m not heartless I do what I can for anyone and anything.
Peoria is a huge city. There wasn't any seasonal work available at stores? Fast food restaurants, grocery stores stocking shelves... try entry level jobs that teenager usual take but work daytime hours that they aren't available for.
He’s tried but he gets an interview then they give the job to a teenager.
He’s called every temp place here and can’t find anything he’s been to every place around here, temps gas stations, restaurants etc and nothing.
I find it so crazy that he’s not having a single stitch of luck finding a job, and especially during this time of year. Does he have something popping up during a background check preventing him from finding work? Bad work history?
@queenmeeks, no bad work history he has a misdemeanor from years ago so idk if that’s it or what. I thought it would be easier to find work in a bigger city but nope.
@kandaceteresa, has he had a consistent work history with companies or has he been hopping from job to job? Depending on what the misdemeanor was for, it could be an issue.
I’ve cancelled like everything we had, sold my iPhone X last month to pay bills. Downgraded to a free phone through prepay and cancelled my Verizon act. He tried donating plasma they won’t take it something with his bloodwork. I have a phone interview tomorrow and go from there but being 20 weeks pregnant they’ll probably turn me down when I do the in person interview. I’ve sold everything I don’t need over the last few months to make ends meet and it’s still not enough and now I have nothing left to sell. My kids are already sleeping on air mattresses because we can’t afford regular mattresses. Like idk what else to do I’ve tried everything. I’m trying so damn hard.
@queenmeeks, I have all but $35 of our rent so that should be fine it’s just everything else I can’t handle and I’m so overwhelmed I just need to vent
@kandaceteresa hopefully you have a decent landlord that will let that $35 slide until you can get it if you can’t acquire it before rent is due! As far as your other bills, what are you looking at? Just the standard water, electricity, etc? Contact the companies and ask for payment extensions.
@queenmeeks, yea our water electric and gas plus whatever the kids need and gas etc
Cancel any extras you have currently and get them back when you’re back on your feet. Downgrade your cellular plan. Donate plasma. Sell clothes and shoes you don’t need. Have an extra TV? Sell it.
Have y’all tried temp agencies? Walmart? Grocery stores? Apply, apply, apply! Indeed.com and Glassdoor.com
Did you get a call back on that job?
Also look into secret shopper gigs in your state.
Have your husband donate plasma.
Sell clothes you don't need.
Cancel the non essential bills like cable, netflix, internet, etc until you can afford it.
Apply for assistance for the time being.
Apply for any and all jobs you qualify for.

Transgender children
So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. So the entire school had to take a course on how to handle transgender children. For example they can't say girls go this or boys do that. What are...
