My son just told me "you always ruin my day" where in the world did he learn to disrespect me like that? This is on top of the "I hate you" when he has a tantrum or the "I dont ever want to see you again" "I dont like you" "I dont want you" I feel like such a bad parent because when I do what I feel is right an neccessary or I just need a minute to myself to cool off he downright disrespects me. Any ideas on what I can do to stop this language? I tell him it's not ok to say you hate someone but you can say your angry with them but that doesn't seem to get through to him.

This is where I throw in the good ole guilt trip.
I say something like “if that’s how you feel, then fine. But even though you’re in a mood right now, I love you more than anything in the world” eventually he will catch on, we don’t say mean things to people we love.
I would remove any “negative” aspects from EVERYTHING, and refrain from using words like hate (“ew I hate steak” or whatever you could be using the word for) and replace them with positives (like “I prefer chicken over steak”)
I try to make everything have an optimistic outlook. As annoying as it is to try to be happy in his face all the time, it’s worked so far for him and my niece

My son does the same. We are at a loss. And it's hard to not use the word hate when we have been using it for so long. I was actually looking at a Christmas book the other day to get for my son, and it had the word hate in it a bunch of times. I think it was a Grinch book. I put it down real fast lol and said hell no.

My mom would always say you can not like me, you can be upset but I'll always love you. And when we were around 4-5 years old it clicked so that's what we would say to her. I remember telling her I don't like you but I still love you through gritted teeth.
