Ok mamas I’ve got a work rant . You guys let me know your opinions . So I get to work at 7:30 am ( I work at a daycare) I find out there is no heat. It’s very cold outside . So the supervisor says she will talk to the People that work downstairs . The daycare is located in a community centre. Anyway it’s 11 am and still it’s freezing as hell. We call parents to let them know the situation and some STILL bring their kid in. We have a new supervisor who is so “by the book” honestly they need to close the Center and send everyone home! I would never leave my daughter in a cold environment like that!!

That’s crazy, and there should be a regulation that designates that the center closes in this sort of situation!

Yup it’s beyond rediculous

Being an ECE myself , I would be closing down/ not allowing children to come. No heat in the winter means they should be be there.
Renata s··
I was just saying that myself . If I was the director I wouldn’t allow the children in. Our parents really don’t care about the welfare of their own kids . Makes me sick . We let the parents know but they still brought some in. I would have just closed it altogether . It’s a health and safety issue
Nicole ·
I completely agree with you. I would not allow my son to stay in an environment like that nor would I want my daycare kiddos to either

I’m sure there is a law about the minimum indoor temp for a place such as a daycare. I would not leave my child there but I also know some parents are desperate and may not be able to miss work. Tough situation for sure.

I want to talk to my union . It’s pretty nuts to be in that condition. For both children and staff

@renata.shumelda, that’s a good idea! You definitely should.

I'm not saying it's right, but some parents cannot afford to miss work. It's unfortunate that they would put thier kid in that situation, but if you've never been in a single mothers shoes, then it's hard to say you don't understand why they would still bring thier kids. For some mothers, missing a day of work is not an option. Maybe they have multiple kids to feed and live on a strict budget. Maybe she works on minimum wage? It's unfair for the child, but some mums just don't have a choice. Being a married woman who doesn't survive on minimum wage, I can judge all I want. But your work situation is some mothers nightmarish reality!
Renata s··
Oh for sure. A lot of our parents do not work but I don’t know their full situation as I don’t know them personally . It’s so natural to be quick to judge . I can’t imagine being a single mom so much respect for them!

@renata.shumelda I definitely have so much respect for single mothers as my sister is one. She's raising 3 boys on her own. She's one of those moms that wouldn't have a choice but to drop her kids off cuz she couldn't miss work. She works her ass off to make sure her kids have everything they need with no help at all from the boys father. This is why I say, it's not acceptable to put your kids in this situation, but Sometimes you have to understand where the parent is coming from. That being said, it's totally unacceptable for your work to not have heat. Even if the generator heater isn't working then the boss should of went out to buy plug in heaters for each room!! That's totally ridiculous!! I'd call the Labor board and or your union and complain if I were you!!

@sashalicious, for sure I’m looking into that. I feel like it wasn’t handled too well.
