Breastfeeding Mamas! So my little man is 2 weeks & 2 days, he is super impatient & wont nurse past my letdown (5/10mins) because he doesn’t want to work for the rest of the milk. I’ve been exclusively pumping with still trying to latch him every so often. The past two days my nipples have hurt SO bad.. They’re cracking & bleeding even though I use nipple balm. Since they’ve been doing this I’ve noticed these clumps coming out, and a few of them each pump. Is it clogged ducts passing? My breasts themselves don’t hurt. I produce a lot of milk if that helps. I’ve double checked & triple checked my flanges to make sure they are the right size in case that was causing my pain. I’m at a loss, have any of y’all experienced this? Pics in comments.
@momstatus, try to pump until you milk let’s down, then have him latch. That way your milk is right there ready.
@roth1321, I do! My letdown is super quick & heavy. Once he gets past the heavy flow he’s done working for it
@momstatus I'm not sure about the clumps but I will send a text to my LC and ask. Not sure I can help there, but as far as the let down and him being done after, he may be getting enough or it is too forceful at first. Keep in mind that a baby doesn't know how to BF any more than the mom until they learn. It's a team effort. Both of you must learn together. That book will help more than most of us on here. It's a great resource and you don't have to read the whole thing. Flip to the parts you need directly and read as much as you can. Sorry I wish I had more answers. My babies both pulled off at this age and I'm a believer that it's normal and will pass. As you go back and forth between breathing and bottle he will pick a favorite. If you want him bf'ing more and better it takes more nursing sessions and learning for both of you. Keep going mama! You'll get this together. As long as baby is growing and thriving you're doing great!
Try just using your milk on the nips instead of the balm. If you are ep'ing it can take awhile for baby to get a good latch. With my first it was latch, damage, pump until healed, latch, damage pump until healed every weekend until she was two months old. Then we got a latch that I could tolerate and it got better as she learned to do better each feeding.
Get this book!!!!!! I cannot stress it enough!!!! It saved my BF experience and I'm going strong with baby 2.0.
"Breastfeeding Made Simple"
It will give you all the answers a good LC will give(get one of those, too) but is at your disposal even when your LC cannot be reached. Hope this helps.
