Early potty training (correction: early elimination): how many of you tried and how successful was it? Every time I try, it’s too late, the baby already peed or pooped and I cannot read her facial expressions to tell that she is due in advance 🤷‍♀️

I plan on doing the same.

I was told you do put her on the potty in the ever morning. Then ever 10 minutes or so. I did have a friend that her baby was potty trained by the time her child was 11 months. But she started her baby at 6 months. Not sure how old your beautiful baby is.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Finally someone who understands the benefits 😊My baby is 4,5 months old and I don’t think it’s too early to start because some moms start very shortly after the birth and are very successful

Great idea. I know I said it before. But I plan on doing the same when my daughter comes. As soon as she can sit up by herself I will start. But who care what people think as long as you are not abusing your children I don't think it matters but that's just how I look at. It..

You keep doing what is best for your child. Key word.. your child

😐 don’t rush her to much to grow to fast.. just enjoy the days of her being little.. impossible to potty train at 4 months!! And honestly for brain development.. play with her sing read dance... that is the brain development she needs right now.. not to show signs she has to go..

@maria_lizzie Well I think it is smart. My 3 year know how to go to the potty and she still refuses to go and prefer to use her pull-ups instead. So this time around. I am going to start early this time.

@maria_lizzie, yes I have read this and doesn’t say 4 months and even suggests not to before 18-24months.. She started at 8 months because she recognized the cues.. because at 4 months no way can you even begin to understand when baby has to go. I started my daughter at 10 months because she showed the cues of when she had to go and she will be 18months tomorrow and she goes on the potty but not always. I’m not saying don’t start early but.. 4 months is a little too early.

maria_lizzie

the cues can be seen even from the birth, not mentioning 4 months. So it’s only a matter of observing and close connection with the baby as the article suggests.

Everyone parents differently. My daughter is 2 and not interested in potty training yet. We have tried.. she will when she is ready. 4 months is pretty young for potty training. To me it is unnecessary stress to do that since they have no bladder control, but you do what is best for you and your daughter in the end. Best of luck.

Thanks! I agree that it’s stressful for both of us that’s why I am not pushing too hard, just trying to anticipate her needs and put her over the tub or potty when I can. It’s just another way of understanding what my baby needs at particular moment in time like food or change of clothing.

Thanks! That is why I want to try early, because the longer you wait the harder it gets to teach them (when they lose the connection with what they are doing completely)

What’s the point in rushing it?? So it’s more convenient for you?

maria_lizzie

Maria

Мама дочки-младенца

How is it more convenient for me?! I would think disposable diapers are way more convenient for now. The point is to help my baby’s brain development with not wiping off the reflexes, the same goes to letting her stay on the floor rather than in the bouncer and allowing co-sleeping instead of sleeping in her own bed in a separate room.

@spookylyn

I think she was asking about elimination communication just confused on the term because she said something about watching signs

maria_lizzie

Maria

Мама дочки-младенца

@spookylyn, right, I should not have used the term “potty training”, because the idea is not to teach her to control the bladder but to tell/show me that she wants to go

maria_lizzie

Maria

Мама дочки-младенца

@spookylyn, this article maybe, but there are many cultures well studied with plenty of positive evidence

It’s not about the ability to control their bladder but about the reflexes. If they are constantly in the diaper they lose the connection and it’s harder to recreate such with the time

If you want to spend every 30-40 minutes holding your child over a potty then do it 🤷

But they've proven that potty training too early or too late does affect their bladder health

del_1548183155_mamabear627

I think attempting to potty train a 4 month old is a biiiiiit early. They don’t even really know what they’re doing (pooping or peeing) until like, 18-24 months anyways.

del_1546187204_nerdymommyplus2

Deleted

Also they don't get any bladder control or poop for that matter until AT least 18 months. They may know they are doing it without a diaper but they can not control it. Their bladder isn't even matured till toddler years

@maria_lizzie

I used them as soon as they fit. 2 weeks old. I even used the old fashioned type "Flats".

I only used disposal at nights

del_1546187204_nerdymommyplus2

And actually depending on fabric (cotton or bamboo) they can hold quite a bit back in the 50s only cotton flats and pins were available

del_1546187204_nerdymommyplus2

2 weeks old. Has a flat diaper underneath this. Instead of pins they use "snappis" or other type of fastener. Covers are no longer pull on plastic pants. They are snapped or velcro cover.

I know it sounds crazy (my own husband thinks it’s crazy) but there are cultures out there that do that successfully and there are studies that show it is actually possible and beneficial - https://www.parentingscience.com/potty-training-age.html

Potty training a 4 month old ? 🤔🤔 never heard of that. It's impossible.

I agree with the above comments.

del_1546187204_nerdymommyplus2

It's called early elimination communication.

I don't agree with it and think it's nonsense. Like you said. I could never read signs anyways 😂

I'm sorry hun but you can't potty train a 4 month old. Kids are ready when they are ready not when you are. They can be 18 months old, 2, 3 , 4 or 5 years old. I know people who have four year olds that still aren't potty trained. My experience my daughter started potty training at 18 months. 4 months old is impossible

Is this for real?

maria_lizzie

Мама дочки-младенца

What is? Early potty training? It’s recommended to start early (some do it from the day one), because the longer baby spends in the diapers (regular ones, not cloth diapers) the harder it will be to potty train. The regular diapers wipe all the reflexes and the baby doesn’t know what she or he did.

my almost 3 year old isn't even potty trained.. He knows damn well when he needs to go but be just refuses to use a potty so... yeah there's no way you're going to teach your daughter to use a potty before 1...
