What’s your reason for switching?

i work as a 911 dispatcher & my original plan was to become a police officer.. ive always doubted myself, not knowing whether i’ve got the personality for it. i’m timid, naive, & too nice. & now that i see what REALLY goes on out there, idk if it would be a good match! however i used to work at an after school program at an elementary school & i absolutely loved it. i love kids & i think teaching is a great back up plan for me

I'm a preschool teacher and plan to open a home daycare once my baby girl is born. I have a bachelor's in early childhood

do you enjoy it? i was thinking early childhood or elementary education. i loveee little kids & preschool would be awesome, but at the same time a little bit older kids would be fun too!

Working at a daycare is the worst job ever to me. Having your own home daycare is the way to go.

This is my twelfth year teaching elementary school. Teaching is a lot of work & very stressful. The kids make it worth it, but a lot of the job is dealing with demands from administration and unreasonable parents. You really have to be passionate to teach. There’s a reason 30-50% of teachers quit in their first five years. I’m not trying to discourage you by any means, just make sure you know what the job truly is before investing a lot of time into your studies. Many people have the perception that it’s easy and fun, but the reality is that it takes a ton of work to be a great teacher. Most teachers work between 50-60 hours a week during the school year. The work is very rewarding, though.

Totally agree with ek_. I have taught for about 18 years elementary and middle levels. It has changed greatly from then to now and not for the better. She is right on between parents and administration and super disrespectful kids, it has really become stressful. There is work before and after hours and usually on the weekends. After a few years you get a groove and get it figured out.

I am being a stay at home mom right now and totally love it. Don’t want to go back to teaching. Extremely rewarding but just not enough to outweigh the cons right now.

Have been contemplating opening my own day care. I have been thinking about it for about five years. And there are grants available for women to open their own businesses. It does seem like a lot of hours with that too.

What parts of education do you think you like?
