Hi moms! I finally had my little one!! What are some ideas on how to keep your LO asleep that’s not swaddling? I don’t want to keep him super confined while sleeping . Would tucking him in be better? Open to any ideas!

Swaddling was a lifesaver for us. It’s not really confining per say, but rather mimics the close and tight feeling they had in the womb. It’s comforting to most infants.

Aside from swaddling, we tried to implement a bedtime routine early

And we made kiddo's bedtime meal as big as possible / as much as he wanted so he wouldn't wake up due to hunger. We'd deliberately keep him awake / not let him dose off while eating his bedtime meal for this reason.

It all seemed to work well - he slept thru the night for the first time at 3 months old and has always been a very good sleeper.

But without the sleep sack/swaddle, he wouldn't stay asleep very long.

Okay this is super helpful! So the whole routine didn’t kick in until 3 mo is that right?

@seyda sorry, my typo was terrible.

We started the routine as soon as we'r brought him home. First it was around 11p bedtime, and he'd wake around 2. But gradually that time started getting longer as he could go longer between meals. We moved up his bedtime routine to 10p when I returned to work, since he only needed one or two feedings, and kept moving it up until he was on a sleep schedule that best fit my husband and my needs. 3months was when he first slept through the entire night - 9p to 7a and it was glorious!

@seyda, well the SleepSack Swaddle allows for swaddling arms IN, and one or both arms OUT for the baby's comfort and I’m guessing you can free his arms while feeding and when he falls asleep, easily swaddle him again without waking him up. But again, your pediatrician is the best person to ask.

I wish I knew. I heard swaddling is the best way though because it mimics our womb.

Same. I also kept reading the different ways to swaddle but I’m nervous on keeping them swaddled overnight. Do you keep them like that overnight?

@seyda, yes overnight. Pretty much each time they sleep u put it on them. It doesn’t harm them in any way whatsoever. When they get to the stage where u notice baby starts to turn, you move to the sleeping sack. It’s so much better than a blanket. It reduces the risk of Baby suffocating. Swaddling is basically like also replacing a blanket. Then if u end up with a 10 month old like mine, you can Invest in the sleep pajamas with the feet. It replaces using the blanket and still keeps them covered up.
