So ladies second week in a row today doctor checked and said I was 1 1/2 dilated. I wonder how fast will I dilated till contractions start kicking in. Was suggested on being induced. I'm kinda thinking of doing it since I was induced with my first one. I think it's less scary being induced. Than just waiting for him to come. Any suggestions to speed up the dilation on its own.

My doctor says to walk, sex. I’m drinking the tea and doing primrose oil. But my case is a bit special. My doctor want to do a sweep at 38 weeks (next week) IF I’ve dilated more on my own.

Induction is no fun! I couldn't do epidural and only had Stadol for pain. It sucked and the contractions were NOTHING like natural labor. It's better to go into labor on your own if you can. If you need help, THEN they can do an augmentation which is like induction but just helps your labor along.

My Dr never mentioned induction til my last appointment at 39 weeks and was just if she's not here by your due date we'll probably induce you a week after. You should let him come on his own ( hopefully he does) before wanting to be induced. It's not scary lol u got this

Different opinions of doctors I guess. Mine was a Specialist for high risk pregnancies which mine was this time. I have had 6 pregnancies and have had an OB and CNM and both have different opinions about what full term is. For medical reasons they usually induce or schedule c-sections between 38-39 weeks or sometimes if needed after 37 weeks. This is because it is the "safe period" generally speaking. Now of course there are babies who can have lung problems at 37 weeks but then again you have babies "full term" at 41 weeks with lung problems. It is all a case-by-case situation. I do agree that sime doctors are too "induction happy" increasing the risk for an unnecessary and avoidable c-section.

Well tomorrow I turn 37 weeks. And on my next weeks appointment were gonna see if any change on the cervix making me 38 weeks. So basically being induced won't be till after 38 weeks. But will see when baby ready. Maybe he comes sooner on his own

Not sure there is until babes is ready to come. I walked around for weeks being 3cm and ended up getting induced in the end lol

You still have about 3-4 weeks of pregnancy left. What's the reason for talking about induction so early? My dr didnt mention anything about it til I was 40 weeks

@nbentley88 I've worked with OB's and they do inductions for their own convenience. Sometimes they aren't even necessary. They need to be on call at all times. And most of the times they do so it wont interrupt their office hour visits.

@itty_bitty well I know every doctor is different. Mine delivered both my boys and we set up induction weeks out with all 3 of them now but she won't do it until term.

Is there a medical reason they are inducing you for? Full term isn’t until 39 weeks

My doctor said 37 weeks is term but 38 weeks is full term. I was induced 38.4 for medical reasons.

@mom211n11, yikes 38 weeks is not full term. And why they can’t and won’t induce until 39 weeks unless medically necessary.
