We started melatonin last night.
Bedtime has always been difficult with Isabelle, but the past few weeks have been BRUTAL. I’m talking screaming, fighting, staying up until after midnight every single night because she just won’t fall asleep...I was at the end of my rope. Several people recommended melatonin,
So I finally caved and bought some.
I did less than 0.25mg last night, just enough to fill the mouthpiece of the syringe, an hour before bedtime and she was out within FIVE MINUTES of laying down. David and my grandmother, though, are still completely opposed, saying it’s wrong of me to “drug” her just to get her to sleep...it’s making me second guess myself. I never thought the people closest to me, one of them being her father, would shame me for doing something for my child that I deemed best after we exhausted ALL other options.
The only thing I’m concerned about is her potentially developing a resistance to it, but I’ve been researching a lot and I can’t find anything like that except for when people are given large amounts, and even then it simply says to lower the dosage. I’ve still been giving it to her and it’s helping, I also find she’s in a much better mood during the day. She’s NEVER been a good sleeper, she can’t calm down enough on her own to actually let herself fall asleep. I would put her down at 8:30 and it’d be almost 1am before she’d actually fall asleep, just hours of yelling and fighting and screaming. The only other thing I could think to do was a sleep study, but her pedi moved so we’re between doctors at the moment and her normal doctors office doesn’t do it. They just say to put her down later/earlier, don’t let her nap, turn off screens before bedtime, etc. All things we’ve tried that haven’t helped at all. They say “Oh, it’s just the terrible twos!” as if that helps me in any way. I work full time and she and I both have to be up at 6am every day, it’s not healthy for either of us to be up all night every night. I cut her naps and she started getting SUPER cranky around 6pm and she still wouldn’t sleep at night. She’s a great sleeper: once she’s out, she’s out for the night and doesn’t wake up at all! She’ll sleep twelve hours at a time if you let her. It’s just getting her to sleep that’s the issue. We’ve tried the essential oils, we’ve tried the lavender, I even tried giving her the sleepy time tea before bed lmao. We have night lights, we’ve tried complete darkness, music. They say I’m “drugging” her but at the first sniffle they immediately try to pull out the Tylenol. It just feels so contradictory. 😓
Sleep is literally as important as eating or drinking to survival. If she had bad acid reflux, would they say you shouldn't "drug" her to keep food down?!?
We learned early on with my kiddo that all of his behavioral issues basically stem from his sleep. We've gotten it better, but he's not quite there. While we haven't used melatonin, we did up his ferritin as a result of low levels and have been working on getting him to fall asleep by himself (we are a distraction to him falling asleep.) We have some work to do still because he consistently gets 1-2 hrs less than recommended, but we are getting there!
I hope this works out for you mama!! You tell them you are willing to do whatever your baby needs!!
I don't know. It's not like you are doing it so you can go party or doing it in the middle of the day.
IMO as long as it's not an everyday thing, and she isnt dependent on it, its ok.
She needs sleep my little one doesn't like to sit still very well maybe after awhile it won't be as necessary but it can help get the routine going it's something natural our bodies produce anyway so it's not really a drug she obviously needs it for the moment
I recently started giving my 4 year old the childrens vitamin melatonin & it's been such a lifesaver! She fought bedtime like crazy too. You're not making a crazy "drugging" choice! Don't second guess yourself 💕

Rainbow in the sky after walking my 2 mutts last night. Here's to hoping for us all! ?
Science!
My friend posted this on facebook last night and said her kids were asleep within minutes. It's a song that scientists created to help people fall asleep. I was skeptical but I thought what the hay, I'll try it out. I didn't bank on Dh falling asleep, but both him and lo were asleep by minute 2. And lo slept six straight hours. ?
Moms with girls ... when did your daughters need to start wearing deodorant? My daughter is only 8 but the last few days she’s developed a stink about her and she showers every other night. It’s literally coming from her armpits. I just thought 8 was a bit young

Since my friends always bail on me last min (AFTER i had gotten ready), I’ll just hang out with ole reliable and stuff my face with cheesy tortellini.
Someone make my night better.
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
Just make sure to talk with her pediatrician about this. You should find out why she needs that because her body should be producing it on it’s on. You can tell it’s not producing enough because you only gave her a bit and it helped her tremendously. I only say to speak with her dr about it because I’ve read your body can become immune to the melatonin. Especially starting it at an early age. Otherwise you aren’t drugging her, melatonin isn’t even a drug it’s a natural substance your body produces. (That doesn’t mean you can’t overdose or become immune to it though)
