While I was pregnant I never got the rhogram shot, now this is my first baby so I didn’t know anything about it. After delivery my baby girl had to be out in the nicu for a blood transfusion. My midwife avoided me when I asked why I never got my shot.
They gave me one during pregnancy and one in the hospital after my both my babies were born.
@kimmberry they did tell me it doesn't affect your first born but if you don't get it after the baby is born you will most likely miscarry your second. I actually have a friend who had a miscarriage at 8 weeks with her first and didn't get it and got pregnant again a few months later and put off it off and ended up losing her second at 24 weeks because of it. If they never mentioned it to you I would definitely look into it and possibly speak with a lawyer.
@catfish2220, thank you for sharing that and I definitely am.
@kimmberry no problem I hope it turns out well for u.
You still need one during pregnancy regardless
I thought the shot is required during pregnancy but not always after birth. I am RH negative as well.
You get one after birth if the baby has a positive blood type and you’re a negative, unless your husband is also a negative.
I didn’t get one in the hospital with my first but got it at my 2 week follow up. My next 2 pregnancies they wouldn’t let me take my iv out until they tested the baby and gave me my rogham shot.
@roaringmamabear, so is it normal not to get one for first pregnancy?
@kimmberry, not if you have a negative blood type and your partner has a positive blood type. You should get one EVERY pregnancy.
I’ve had one with each pregnancy and miscarriage. With my second and forth I had one in early pregnancy (due to bleeding) and one at 28 weeks as well as after birth. I’ve never heard of it not being needed in your first pregnancy.
