Question for the Christian mommies ~

We don’t do Santa for Christmas. We never have since the kids were born. We do a bible study and the open gifts, that’s about as far as we go. But this year I had another parent tell me that my kids better not tell her kid that Santa isn’t real.

How do I even go about this?

Kids have been ruining “Santa” for other kids since the idea was born. It’s seriously not the end of the world if a child finds out the truth. Their parents can choose to tell them it’s fun to believe anyway or they can tell them the truth.. either way, any parent who chooses to lie to their children and tell them Santa exists when he doesn’t knows that this conversation is going to come up at some point. My children believe in Santa but I would not be upset if they came home telling me they heard he wasn’t real.

I wouldn’t worry so much about it but it’s super sweet that you do.😊

There was another post about this on here yesterday....i agree 100% on what u do becasue tbh Christmas isn't about the gifts or a fat man in red thats watches to see if youre good or bad all year that sneaks into ur home and eat cookies and drinks milk (sounds creepy when you out it like that actually lol) its about the birth of Jesus! Hence the name CHRISTmas....

But I'm sake of all fun just don't have the kids talk about it when they're in the company of the other kids that may or may not have the same beliefs

You just hold true to your God and your values. You know the real reason for the season and you instill that in your children.

You DO NOT have to tell your kids about him or push them to beleive.

Tell them the truth and tell them that some parents lie to their kids for fun so maybe dont talk about it at school.

My kids know the truth. We will do a tree and gifts of course but our focus will be on God. Not Santa Claus.

I would just politely tell your kids that everyone does something different for Christmas. I am Christian and did the Santa as a child and will probably do the same with my kids, but we ALWAYS focused on Jesus’s birth over presents and Santa. When I finally figured out that Santa wasn’t real, but mom just asked me to go along with the magic until my friends and siblings could understand a little bit more.

But in reality, you can’t control what your kids say all the time. If something slips, just remind the mom that you guys handle Christmas differently.

Hope that helps? 😬

@modom16 What does Christmas mean to you? Why is it special for your family?

@mhbb3, why do you ask? 🤔

@modom16 Just curious. I feel like people tend to hold on to things from holidays for a reason.

I can see her point but she said it in a rude way. I think it could be a good time to explain that all families celebrate different things and it might be hurtful to tell another kid what they believe isn’t real. My son is nearing the age where it will come out eventually but I’d rather get to explain it myself than some kid at school.

I like that approach. Just explain that everyone has different beliefs. But that might just make him more eager to explain. He is very excited about Jesus. 😅 Before it wasn’t an issue but now that he is 5 he is able to have more constructive conversations.

Do you tell your kids Santa doesn't exist? You could just let them know not to say anything to other kids because it's not very nice. My mom didn't do santa when we were little and unfortunately I was the party pooper kid and would tell everyone santa wasn't real because I didn't know better. My mom never told me not to tell other kids. 😅😅

When you told other kids did they believe your or did they believe what their parents said? I doubt anyone will believe a 5yr old Vs their own parents lol. Did it cause conflict for you?

@knockout, I always believed the kids who said Santa wasn’t real and I’d tell on them and cry. 😂 Honestly I’d just say everyone has different traditions on Christmas and you wouldn’t wanna hurt your friends feelings by saying Santa isn’t real.

@caiticat., 😂😂 you tattle tail you! 🤣 I think that’s the kind of approach I’ll take. Like with Easter, my mother was the Easter bunny but my kids knew that the bunny isn’t real and they kept it a secret and thought they were important because only them and the adults knew 😂

I would tell my children we don't talk about Christmas with our friends because everyone believes differently. But I feel the same as the other mom if a child told my child Santa isn't real I would be do upset and sad.

@sleepymommy, My kids know that santa is for “fun” but he’s just fake, we had that talk when they were old enough to understand. I’m not necessarily allowing him to ruin memories for other kids I’m just not going to tell him to hide his religion. Christmas is definitely magical just not because of elves and santa. Someone below had a reasonable idea that I think I’ll use.

Well it’s official we are doing remote learning in the fall. The school board voted and went along with what the superintendent wanted. I can’t even say I’m upset or mad about it cause I do think it was the right decision and we had a bit of a warning that this was how it was going to go. Even though I’m in a good position, a sahm, and very fortunate I can still say it sucks lol. What about your kids school?

Locking your doors We are having a discussion on one of my birth boards from my older kids about locking doors and security alarms. There are many of us (me included) who do not lock our doors at home (I actually don't even have a deadbolt on my house and we don't lock it when we leave either), and others who think that's totally weird. So what do you do? Do you lock your doors? Do you think it's weird that people don't?
