Your family is what you make it. It's not about how you were raised or how your spouse was raised, it's about how you envision your own family. If you are on a trajectory that you don't like, then change it! Do things differently while your kids are still young. They'll grow into it.

I hope it helps! We are terrible at communicating, but I'm really trying. I'm working on myself and trying to go from a person that bottles it all up to expressing myself with words. It's getting easier each time I have these conversations with my husband.
