So I work in hotel housekeeping, asked the only higher up there is and this was her response. Not to familiar with breastfeeding in the work place but is this legal? And yes, I understand why it would be a liability issue to pump in the office or a vacation room but I figured I'd ask since those are the only two private spots. Help.

All jobs are required to provide you a PRIVATE place to pump at work. Not the lobby or breakfast bar.

I'm just going to pump before and hope for the best till they can figure something out but I'm afraid those would be my only places. I don't see the owner allowing anything else.

@x_graveyard_baby_x it's a state law to allow you a private place. If they fail to provide that it could be a law suit.

Just make sure to know your rights before demanding anything. Record everything.

I'm keeping screenshots of everything, nor am I demanding. I just wanted to know if what there are telling me is legal because they have a hard time doing things by the book.

By law they can not make you pump in a public place or bathroom.

You need to speak to HR about this. Is this Hr? Politely Ask which private room you will be able to use. They have to provide a PRIVATE place, one with a lock! I personally had to do it in a storage room. I had to take a chair had to arrange space to do it. I believe you are allowed 3-15 minute sessions. I could be wrong about that!

Not here, I'd have to call and talk to HR but I can't do anything due to it being the weekend.

@x_graveyard_baby_x, I’m just going to bet they just aren’t informed. I work in HR and didn’t know because I only had 2 employees besides myself. So I STILL have to look it up lol

I'm hoping that's the case, they made a few people clock out and finish working. So they are known for breaking labor laws.

They HAVE to provide you a private space to pump. Legally, have to. Even if it means your boss getting up and letting you use their office for a bit. They are supposed to allow you a private space with a lock, that's NOT the bathroom!
