This is such a tricky situation to be in—and it is one I have grappled with too. I guess, for me, it all boils down to where I would actually enjoy living the most. Moving elsewhere would make more sense financially—as Vancouver is one of the most expensive cities to live in—but it doesn’t make sense in any other way. Family, friends, familiarity, the ocean, mountains, forests, city life, safety, diversity... It’s hard to walk away from all of that. Of course, this is what I feel is best for me, but maybe some of this will resonate for you as well.
What is expensive? The average 3 bedroom house for sale here is 800k and I’m finding nice places out there for 200-300k! I’ve lived in Calgary so I know the weather but when I came back to BC in my memory gas food etc was cheaper in ab and the wages were higher
Yep it’s beautiful here today!! I’m from B.C. and Alberta is still expensive, but work is better. Not all houses here are cheaper...our last house was over $400,000 and 3 bedrooms and our current we purchased for over that and it’s 5 bedrooms.
I moved from Edmonton to b.c almost 5 years ago. My brother is still out there. It's been about -17 and snow up the arse. I'm on the island now and it's not that expensive. We were renting a 4 bedroom whole house for 1500. Check out used cowichan or used nanaimo and kijiji for rentals over here. Theres lots
I would love to live over there, hubby grew up in Campbell river and half his family is still there. There isn’t much work over there for us and he doesn’t want to live on the island. we are looking to buy instead of rent, the cost to buy in Edmonton vs Vancouver is crazy. Besides the weather ( I lived in Calgary for 4 yrs) are there any other cons? Or pros?
