Someone said this was considered child abuse, what do you guys think?
I have to agree with @ek620, and @bodybycheetos, my kids pull this crap all the time. I’m not a short order chef. I do cook dinners that I know they will eat and I ask them all the time what they would like for dinner. If they don’t eat then they can have fruit or a yogurt. It’s very far from abuse. To even say it is is absurd!! My youngest went through a long period of not wanting to eat dinner and almost every night while going to he he would say he was hungry and my response was well that’s what happens when u don’t eat dinner. We will have breakfast when u wake up. They def won’t starve. Also my pedi said that if they eat one good sized meal a day that’s ok.
Nope. Parent did her job and provided food. If the child refused to eat it then they can wait until the morning. That’s how they learn.
I don't play these games. I cook things that I know the whole family likes so nobody can use the excuse of not liking dinner. My oldest likes to not eat and play instead. I tell him multiple times to eat his food and if he doesn't by the time I do the dishes, he's waiting until morning. It isn't abuse, they have the option of eating and then not wanting to go to bed at bedtime so saying I'm hungry is equivalent to saying "I'm tUrStY" 🙄 so they can get out of bed again.
I don't think it's child abuse, but I think there are better ways to go about it.
My parents did it to me. I stopped being picky at that point. It's not abuse, just tough love
My parents did the same with me.. the pediatrician told them I'd eat when I was hungry, not to worry. It's a life lesson, not to be so damn picky! There are kids in FAR worse situations! ( They actually have no food to pick from) if my kids don't like what I made for dinner, pb and j it is😋
@ivegot10
I do the same. I either alter the food we had (my oldest has texture issue, won't eat ground beef)
Or I fix something quick and easy. PbJ, cereal, fruit ect.
If you offer your child appropriate food, they refuse to eat. Then take them to bed and say they are hungry. You have 2 options bring them back to the table and give them an option. If they again refuse then you can feed them more in the morning or at the next wake up time. Also be prepared for an early wake up.
It looks like the mom who posted has been battling this issue for a while with her daugther and it sounds like she constantly either offers a different food after bed time or returns to the table and repeats the offer of food, then bed.
Her kid is 5 and stuck in this loop. Maybe some support for mama because she feels triggered and angry about the cycle she is stuck in. Its differently not an ideal situation but from how the situation ended it sounds like her kid is ok with not eating and going to bed. If she gets up in an hour, feed her; if not, that's ok. Get some rest and offer more food at breakfast. Young kids won't starve themselves and if you offer food, they have to choose to eat it.
Yea someone else was saying to offer the same food from before.
My kid refused to eat chicken nuggets (his favorite) last night. So he went to bed only eating his fruit and milk 🤷🏽♀️. He wanted pudding but mama don’t play those games.
No child should ever go hungry, I don’t care what other people say if your child is hungry feed them!
I understand where you’re coming from, but the mother did give the child food. She just refused to eat it.
@ek620, I still don’t think I’d send my kids to bed hungry but that’s just Me.
No, child abuse and neglect is routinely failing to provide adequate food and nutrition for your child. Letting them face the natural consequences of their actions (at age five) is not abuse.
While I'm not one of those "you eat what I fix or you're not eating"
I also don't play the , "I'm hungry"
Or "I'm thirsty" right before bed. A child isn't going to starve overnight 🤷.
