Just pulled out my old breast pump, got 1 ounce from both breast combined...I wonder if it's true that baby gets more directly from mouth than when pumped? I hope so.

They do. I saw the lactationist and we would measure how much my daughter had drank, by getting her weight before and after feeding.
I would barely get anything while pumping. And when i did, it would take me forever.
With breast feeding, my daughter was able to get more oz and in a shorter amount of time.
now dont quote me on this, just speaking from my personal experience hehe 😅

It is most definitely true!

Baby is more efficient than a pump. I could never get more than an ounce or two pumping, I was able to ebf my youngest until 15 months.
Baby’s belly is so small right now an ounce is enough though. Be careful pumping so early, you could create an over supply

@angelfoodcake, If you’re pumping rather then nursing you’ll be fine. You could pump a minute then try to latch him. Then you’re not engorged.

I did he still can't grip 😫

Have you tried a nipple shield? They can help baby latch.
