My baby’s belly button is opening back up it is a little red and irritated but there is nothing oozing out. I can’t get her in to see doc until Monday so I was wondering if there is anything I can do to help it at home or if I just need to keep it clean and dry and leave it be until we see the doc. I’m assuming it is just from her straining while crawling, we had a tough time getting it to heal properly to begin with and every time she would cry or use her stomach muscles it would pop open so I’m assuming she did something that made it pop open again.

That kind of sounds like a hernia. Did she have one before?

@nomli, it was never diagnosed but her belly button stuck out really bad from the time she was born, it’s slowly went down overtime and it’s now completely down just open again.

What do you mean by open? It may need to be cauterized.

@mommytok, it started to scab over in her belly button and I was giving her a bath yesterday and just thought she had gotten something in her belly button while at daycare and I cleaned it out. Well today she had another little dot in her belly button and I looked closely and her belly button has just kind of popped open, it’s not a big hole but when you look close you can tell it’s there and it’s slightly red.

Oh okay. Have you called and spoken to the on call doctor or a nurse at your pedi office? I would see what they suggest especially since you mentioned she’s starting to crawl

Sounds exactly like my son when he was a baby. Turned out he had an umbilical cyst that he had to have surgery to remove. Might not be the same thing but they can do an ultrasound to check. This is what my son's looked like

@boys.everywhere, hers doesn’t really look like that it’s just a tiny hole but there’s no bump or anything anymore hers has went down as she’s gotten older. I’m kind of leaning more toward hernia since she used to bust it open when she used her stomach muscles but I’ll update on what’s going on after her doctor appointment. I’m hoping it’ll be an easy fix and not require any surgery.
