Level 2 or level 3 nipples for 1 tablespoon of oatmeal cereal in bottle? No hate please. It was ped recommended for severe reflux. And I use dr browns nipples

@hollieletcher01, good luck I get the frustration on getting ur baby everything and get him ok. U know what’s best for ur baby and getting done want needs to be done. Best of luck

@laniejay, we go back to the pediatricians office tomorrow for my oldest and I’m going to ask if I could request a different med or something. I just wish he didn’t have to be on meds.
Zantac doesn’t work for most kids. This is why you should really see a GI and not have a pedi treat reflux. A good GI will not suggest cereal in a bottle and will work with meds. Meds are better than cereal. I researched this heavily for my kiddo because I am person who tries hard not to use them. Omeprazole has better results... again- see a specialist. Pedis should be there for well visits, minor illnesses and to refer you to specialists, they should not treat these things because odds are they are not up to date on the best treatments.
@laniejay, he’s on Zantac but I think he may need to be on something different. It helps to where it’s more manageable when he does spit up. But it hasn’t made him stop. He still spits up clear acid often and coughs when he does.
What meds did you try? Did the GI try? They can rx different ones and diff doses. It took months to find the right type for us
Good luck! My nephew had severe reflux and had fallen off the growth charts. Between thickening the formula (once they found the right one) and meds they finally got him gaining weight after like three months.
@rndmshtt, also what formula did you switch her to?
We eventually ended up using Similac Alimentum ( Ready to feed ) For some reason she didnt like the powdered version.
We had to always stock up because the formula was always sold out so sometimes we would go from store to store and buy at least 10 bottles.
I think if you qualify for WIC they can help with the formula i was not qualified. So we had to pay out of pocket.
@gabriellerene, that’s what he was just on. The pediatrician wants him on a hypoallergenic formula due to milk protein intolerance.
@rndmshtt, we had to do a stool sample last time to check for milk protein allergy and it came back a little high so she wants him on nutamigen
For my niece I took a pair of scissors and very very carefully cut a small x in the nipple instead of buying new ones.

@danad269, he was switched to nutramigen today from enfamil ar.
hopefully the nutramigen works for her! that was also one of our options. but she had preferred the similac alimentum ( ready to feed ). Lol what DD wants, she gets 😭😂
@rndmshtt, yes the dr personally recommended it for him. We have tried everything. Every formula and medication. This is a last resort.
I totally get it. My daughter was the same. We felt so helplesss, especially on those rough nights where she cried for hours. Puked all of her milk 😭 One time she even vomitted while she was sleeping. Luckily we co-slept and were able to keep an eye on her. I cant even imagine if we had her in a separate room 😭
My daughter was on Similac Alimentum ( ready to feed )we kept her on it from 8 weeks till she was 1. Now she drinks regular milk. We could have probably switched her to another milk that was more affordable but she had gotten used to the Alimentum and had no issues with it. She also no longer had issues with reflux and it helped with her colic.
The only downside was the older she got the more expensive it was. She would go through a bottle in a day. &’ Each bottle was $11 😭
I was told to put cereal in the bottle but i never did. &’ I also changed the nipples only when i noticed my daughter took forever drinking her milk. I didnt want to change it too soon incase it made her drink too much too soon and make her reflux worse.
Did your pediatrician personally recommend to do it? You know your baby best, so do as you feel is necessary for her.
My daughter also had really bad reflux. We were told to increase her medication dosage and we said no. She was only less than a month old. &’ Already felt uncomfortable giving her medication to begin with. We looked for another pediatrician and asked for a different opinion.
The new pediatrician ( which is who she see’s now ) took her off the medication and we switched her formula. From then on, we had no issues with her. It also helped with her colic. Which was great.
What about Enfamil AR? Similar benefits to adding cereal, just a suggestion
Whn should I change nipples in dr brown bottles to level 1? My baby is 2 months old
My son is a 3 months old. Im adding cereal to his bottles, and using nipple level 2. But its hard for him to suck it and it takes forever , can I change it for level 3?
So pedi recommended switching baby boy to enfamil AR. He’s been on it a couple days so far and his gulping has improved significantly. But.... we’re using dr browns bottles with level 1 nipples and it’s taking him so long to eat a 3oz bottle and he keeps falling asleep at every feeding and not wanting to finish his bottle. Which was never a prob before. Should I use level 2 nipples?
