making my boys 3oz every 3 hours they’re only 5.5lb and just under 5lb is this enough milk? feel so overwhelmed with everything now we’re home and feel like i can’t do anything right 🥺 don’t have a minutes peace to even eat something.
First off you are doing a great job! I think what you're feeding sounds about the same as what I fed my 5lb baby but the draining the bottle tip is a good one. These hectic newborn days will settle down I promise, I had two under one and it really was so tough and like you I had no support when so went back to work, my saving grace was the health visitors, if you ring them and ask for help they will come, they even arranged to come round on days I needed to get to appointments and help me get ready to go out the door. I used there help for the first 2 months and they really did save me so many times, don't be afraid to ask for help mama! X
Thanks, sometimes feel like i’m just awful at this whole thing. I didn’t actually realise they would help with those types of things too! 😱 my HV is coming again on tuesday i think she said.. so i will ask about this then. Thank you!
I promise you...it does get easier and as Lisa said just offer what your offering and up if they drain. You can’t overfeed.
Do you feed together? That was my saving grace! Meant they slept at the same time so I got some peace x
@mistybabie, when mine went back for the week or so before I made him step back and let me try doing it alone so it wasn’t such a shock. Weirdly it was easier without him x
@tbrooks15, honestly i would LOVE to be able to do that but they are very windy babies and need several winding sessions when fed. how do you even manage to get them into that position in your own?!
That’s what my little one is also having and he’s 7lb 9oz so sounds really good to me mama xx
Are they draining it or leaving like a half oz? That was all my rule of thumb that I went by as soon as my little one was draining I would up the oz but if he left half an oz then I felt like he was full if that makes sense? It’s really hard in the first couple weeks and even worse with twins I bet, call on some family to bring you round some home cooked meals or to come round and make you a sandwich, you’ll soon get there x
@mistybabie, this sounds hard to believe but within the next few days/weeks everything will leave out and they will start going longer between feeds, if they are fussing and it’s not wind etc try playing some white noise on your phone my wee ones favourite was the kettle boiling and that help settle him down and gave me the chance to get a cuppa or whatever, if your oh still not back at work get him to make you something and let him take his turn when it comes to feeding so you get a sleep hun
i hope so i really do.. it’s hard to tell WHY they are fussing so much. all new to me anxiety is through the roof lol. always worried something isn’t right. yeah, got him on the dinner and he does help just manages to sleep through everything somehow 😐 i wake up at the slightest sound
Youre not awful at this, you've just had two babies! It's a massive learning curve and bloody hard work at times, but you can do this and it really will get easier. I'm in Dorset but I'd think that all HVs offer the same services x
