Anyone’s LO have a flat head that self corrected itself? I’m taking my LO to a specialist tomorrow to get his head looked at, and it looks very flat to me. Everyone’s telling me to not bother and it will self correct itself when he gets older, but it just looks so flat I don’t know how it would correct itself. He’s 2 months old so I know he’s too little to get a helmet now, but I’m terrified he will have to get one when he’s older. Any advice would be very appreciated❤️

My oldest had a flat head around 4 months and she had to wear a helmet until she was 8 months. I use to do everything, tummy time, holding her up and rotating her head when she slept and it just stayed flat. The helmet worked though thank goodness lol

Why did she wear it for so long if you don’t mind me asking? I just came back from the specialist and she said babies at 4 months that get a helmet typically wear it for 6-9 weeks. My baby does need a helmet because his flat head is severe, but she said if he gets it at three months he will wear it for 5-7 weeks. Are you happy with the results? And did the helmet bother your baby at all, I’m worried he’s not going to like it!

My daughter had a flat spot she got a helmet about a month ago but because she's delayed in her development she doesn't sit or roll yet. Her doctor told me once she starts doing those things it'll fix itself.

My son had a pretty bad flat head at 2 months, I just try to keep him off his back as much as possible. He turns 4 months this week and it is a ton better!

My daughter had a flat head.. My pediatrician told us we could see a specialist if it bothered us, but it eventually got better with a lot of tummy time and sitting up when she was able to on her own. &’ It did ☺️

So you never saw a specialist? I didn’t want to see one either but it’s on my mind 24/7 and I’m so worried about it so I eventually caved and made an appointment. Was her flat head mild?

@babybump21, No it wasnt too bad that it was concerning i suppose. We did at a certain point became concerned because it looked like it hadnt improved but given some time it did. Goodluck on the consultation! Since its early on, maybe they wont have a hard time correcting it ☺️

I know it’s a pain in the ass, but I held Salem ALL the time, and he slept on his belly (I know, SIDS risk. But he wouldn’t sleep any other way, and on his belly he would sleep through the night. He just slept on his belly on my chest) and he never had a flat head. My nephew had it REALLY bad. When he went to daycare and they enforced playtime and tummy time is when it went away, no helmet needed! So I think it does occur on its own naturally so long as you take care of it!

Really and that helped it? I’m doing a lot more tummy time with him but I just don’t think it will help, it looks so flat!

@babybump21, yeah he’s only two months old, so you just have to make sure now that you see it, to stay on top of it. If you don’t let him sleep on his stomach, then make sure while he’s asleep you reposition his head often, and do his tummy time. A lot of babies don’t like tummy time, but tummy time with him on your tummy is still considered tummy time, and they like that a lot more!

Do tummy time as much as possible. Sometimes doctors will recommened PT before a helmet. My nephew got the helmet because his was too pronounced for PT to do much, at like 6m, and he has it until almost a year.

Yeah they will probably recommended PT for him since he’s too young to get a helmet now. His head seems so flat to have it self correct but hopefully PT will help. Did the helmet bother him at all? I’m worried that if he needs it it’s going to bother him, it doesn’t look very comfy to me!

@babybump21, he wasn't bothered by it at all, aside from it getting a bit warm over the summer. It actually made my sister feel better, haha, because whenever he'd bonk his head on something it was protected!

Just do belly time during the day. My son had it and we took him to a physical therapist and did more belly time

Did more belly time help correct it over time?

4 months is usually when they start worrying about that. Headshape can change quite a bit between 2 and 4 months.

My oldest wore a helmet from 4.5-almost 12 months.

My LO head is getting flat in the back, my mom says for me to rub it, and shape it. Did y'all do this, or will it turn by itself??
