Who here has had a doula during labor and birth? I'd love to hear your stories! I had 1 for labor but had to have a csection and am going to go for a vbac with the same doula for baby #2!

That's amazing! I have heard amazing things about them, and when I reached out to her with my son I was nervous at first because I didn't know exactly what it is they were about. But now that I know a little bit, I am so so thankful to have her by my side this time around. She was incredibly amazing during my 36 hours of labor with my son and was there for me 100% up until they took me into the OR for the spinal. I am definitely rooting for a full vbac success with baby #2 but am keeping my csection with my first on the back of my mind just in case.

@tristen.giesbrecht97 good luck and I hope you get the birth your hoping for although it's great your prepared for anything 😊 you can never have too much support so I'd definitely say go for it!!
I've had a doula for both! What are you looking to know? You know your doula can also accompany you for a csection too!
@tristen.giesbrecht97 They don't stay with you super long after baby is born. The most I've seen is about 2 hours tops. But after baby was born and we did our initial skin to skin my doula held my hand while I got my stitches from where I tore. My husband went with baby for his exam and getting dressed so it was really nice to have her there! After we got situated she got me something to eat and drink, made sure I didn't need anything else and she was on her way! She offered to help me get set up nursing but we were okay in that department so I didn't have her stay for that. Most are certified lactation consultants too.

@pippilongstocking Oh wow I didn't know that! Did yours do post partum check ups? The one I have said she does those.
@tristen.giesbrecht97 Yep! She came to our house about 2 weeks after baby was born. They don't do anything medically but she asked how things were going, how I was taking to being a mom, and if I had any questions about breastfeeding/nursing positions. She watched the baby so I could take a shower too. 😆 we sat and chatted for a bit and that was about it lol. I got her a small gift and a thank you card a few weeks after that though.

I had a doula for my first birth and it was amazing. She was very supportive and helped during my long labour, my mum wasn't able to be there with me and my husband's mother passed away not long after we met. Having another woman there for support (and who was well versed in child birth) was amazing. She knew all kinds of massages and showed my husband different ways to relieve stress. Her doula services included classes too, we could choose between private or group classes. She is also the lactation consultant in our area so she was 100% there to help with breastfeeding after I took baby home. I would have gotten a doula again for baby #2 but finances were a bit too tight. Luckily I had so much support the first time that the second time wasn't near as bad!
