My mom has been super pushy about inviting her friends to my baby shower and I gave her four slots because I have a cap and my family took up lots of the slots so I wanted a few for my actual friends. I think that's fair/generous but she's now pushing for more and I'm trying to politely be like "hey you already got these people and there are still others I want to invite if slots open up" and she got so pissy. Then she gets passive aggressive and decides to inform me she's mad because "you know family should be planning this shower not your friends" like no it's not a given your mom plans your shower and my best friend has done a literal spectacular job planning this so back off. I'm so annoyed like this shower isn't about you it's about me so back off please

@soon-2b-mother-of-3 I already have a second shower for my boyfriend's family/friends so another one isn't really feasible but it's not like I even know most of her friends or like they'd get us anything from the registry so I don't see why I should do one for them anyway you know what I mean?

Seems like a lot of pressure for just one event that doesn’t last longer than a couple hours.
I agree, this is your day not hers but I’m sure she’s just excited to share it with everyone she knows. Obviously.
Again, it’s about you so don’t be afraid to say that. It really is.
If you’re mom really doesn’t want to just enjoy the fact that she doesn’t have to put in the work to host a baby shower for you then don’t be afraid to tell her, that she’s more than welcome to host her own for you but the decision has been made already for this event.
It’s up to you who you want there. Not her.

@kmsespy thank you that makes me feel a little better. Like this is supposed to be a fun low key event, and she's still been an active part of the planning process because my friend has kept her in the loop the whole time. Just don't need the extra drama

@liebleind96, agreed. Maybe your friend can help by keeping her in the loop but helping remind her gently that this is about you and the baby.
I kept my shower to only the people I wanted most to be involved in my daughters life.
It just didn’t feel right inviting people I didn’t want there after the birth.

Older people and parent’s friends ALWAYS bring gifts. So more gifts is what I think. Or money.

Would she be willing to host a shower herself? Then she can invite her friends. I know you said it isn’t feasible but if she’s willing to do it, take her up on it. You’ll make her happy and have the opportunity to get to know the people that are important to her.
