I JUST found out my test for group b strep came back positive. From an er nurse. Which irks my nerves, but, whatever. Can anyone explain to me exactly what it is? I tried googling it.

I had GBS with my first. It’s an infection that’s common in pregnant women. It’s absolutely nothing you’ve done wrong or nothing you could have done to prevent it.
I was just given antibiotics as soon as I got to the hospital in labor. My son was born very very healthy. ❤️

I'm in early labor. They told me to get to the hospital when the contractions get closer so I can get antibiotics in me. They never really explained what it was. Thank you!!

I just want to say it is not an infection. (Streptococcus agalactiae) is part of some people’s normal microbiota. It can be an opportunistic pathogen though so it is dangerous when exposed to newborns because they are very susceptible. That is why they want you on antibiotics during labor, to protect your baby. I’m on my last semester toward my BS in biology with an emphasis on microbiology lol so it just irked me a little to see misinformation.

I had it with my first. My Dr. told me that whenever i go to the hospital to make sure i tell the nurses im strep B positive and they will give me antibiotics. When i got induced, i told them straight away and they immediately got me started on the medicine. But now after she was born we both developed Corio. We ended up stayin a few extra days in the hospital. With me and my daughter on antibiotics. But she was perfectly fine and healthy.

GBS is a bacteria that occurs naturally. Because of being GBS+, I was given antibiotics via IV while in labor with my youngest two. They kept an eye on the babies for 24 hours; our youngest had three doses of antibiotics while in labor but her older sister didn’t have a full dose so they kept us until she was 48 hours.

My mom had four kiddos. Two she tested positive and two she didn't. She told me the only difference was she had antibiotics with two and the other two didn't. I have had two kiddos and tested negative each time. Its different for each person and possibly each pregnancy.
