I have a confrontational question. Please be respectful in the comments.

What do you think of circumcision? I'm talking about on all ages and for both sexes.

In the UK it's not the done thing unless medical or religious.

I don't know anyone adult/child that is circumcised. It wasn't something ever even mentioned when I found out I was having a boy..

Good hygiene is good hygiene regardless of circumcision or not.

@nlw well, it depends on the situation.

Baby- parents

Older- the person.

It's up to the parents to make the decision they deam right in that moment.

No one should be circumcised without consent.

@nlw I'm well aware. But if it can be prevented it should, in my opinion.

@nicemmcha2015 I'm sorry that happened to your friend. And yes, UTIs are less common in circumcised men/boys but UTIs in general aren't very common and are easy to treat.

Females, no. Males, yes.

I've never heard of a female needing to he circumcised due to infection, ect. Female circumcision, to my knowledge is to stop sexual pleasure. Males still have sexual pleasure.

Males however, when not circumcised can have reoccuring UTIs throughout life and eventually need it done at a later age. I'd rather circumcise my son when he wont ever remember it rather than he need it done when hes older and will remember it. That would be extremely traumatic and I'd rather not take the chance for his sake. And you'll have people say "well if you teach them to keep it clean that wont happen". Bull shit. One of my best friends didnt circumcise her son at birth and from the day he was born it was a constant issue with infections. She cleaned him well and did everything right but it still happened. At the age of 3 he had to be circumcised because it was becoming a health issue. Having as many UTIs and infections as he was having was deff not good for his kidneys ect. Nor was being on antibiotics so much good for his system. I just dont feel comfortable taking that risk. I couldn't let someone do that to my kid when they are 3 and will probably remember the experience. If people are comfortable with taking the risk then thats business but I just cant do it.

@bitchcraft that's the one that p***es me off the most 'They will catch STDs easier'

Stds come from having sex with an infected person, no matter the amount of cleanliness, foreskin or no foreskin is going to prevent that 🙄

@nlw

I'd find it strange over here if a friend was to tell me they were circumcising their child. It's literally something never mentioned.

@bitchcraft I agree, as long as young boys are taught about hygiene and how to clean it, there isnt any reason to have it removed.. I'd hate for my son to have to have any kind of surgery unless it was a medical emergency x

@bitchcraft standing up for your children's feelings is a good thing to do as a parent. 😊

@unicorn_mama yes it is. And it's never ok to justify bad things but I think we, as human beings, should try to understand first before we judge others.

@bitchcraft I was honestly scared asking this question. When we (my husband and I) decided not to circumcise our son, a lot of his family disagreed with us. In the end, we couldn't circumcise him him anyway (he ended up with hypospadias at birth).

@kerryy23 it's something that's still practiced here in the US. You wanna know something funny? I didn't even know what circumcision was until high school. I had had some male friends (who were Jewish) mentioned it to me and I immersed thought it was bizarre. I asked my dad about it and he said it was normal for boys. I couldn't believe such a thing was normal so I did some research and found out it was unnecessary. But if people still want to circumcise their sons, so be it.

. I feel like anything that changes their body should be the persons choice unless there was some medical reason I don't see the point.

@nlw I THINK it's bc for a boy its not done to make sure he never experiences sexual pleasure. We don't circumcise women in this country at all but in underdeveloped countries its done quite frequently.

My ex husband was not circumcised and he is 32 years old now and has felt self conscious about it his whole life. I'm not sure about the cleanliness thing. Ive only met one man in my life who wasn't circumcised.

@unicorn_mama I agree with you but remember that people never intend to be evil. It might seem evil to us but others might see it as a righteous act.

@mhbb3 I see. But let me ask you this: why is circumcising a boy considered the norm and circumcising a girl is barbaric?

For a woman, absolutely not. Its mutilation so she can never experience sexual pleasure.

For my sons I left that up to their father since I dont have a penis. We circumcised ds3 and will circumcise this baby.

@unicorn_mama the difference is the vagina doesn't need to be cleaned internally. In some cultures, circumcision on a woman would be for marriage reasons.

@nlw no problem and yes, that's what people do, I personally try to not be one of those people, so I keep my replies short and sweet on these type of topics. 😊

@witchywoman can you elaborate? Is that decision for the parents or the person who is circumcised?

We chose not to do it. We didn't think it was necessary, and a lot of my research showed that it is very painful, while other papers say it isn't, so I didn't think it was worth the risk of there being a lot of pain. His dad isn't circumcised either.
