Well one should I be pumping to? I mean I’ve been feeding on demand , and I try to pump an hour and a half after I feed cause I’m worried my supply would go down . . Second he doesn’t feed very long he does anywhere from 10-20 minutes on one side and I’ll burp him and change him in between so I can switch him to the other side , but he just stays asleep. . So can that also effect my supply ?

You should have to also pump is baby is getting enough. If you pump after baby feeds, it could cause an over supply which can lead to clogged ducts and mastitis. If you feel like you need to pump, pump immediately after you feed to tell your boobs to make more milk next time.
Start on the other side the next time you feed him. Do you see him swallowing? Does he have a good suck, swallow, breathe pattern? He may be an efficient feeder and not need more than 20 minutes. How are his wet diapers and weight gain? Is the pedi concerned? Will he take both sides if you don’t change him between breasts? Maybe a quicker transition would keep him up.
(Nursed 2 babies. 1 until 3. Currently nursing my 18 month old. Pregnant with #3. I’ve been through exclusively pumping, lip/tongue tie revisions, supplemental nursing systems, mastitis.)

Yeah that’s what I do is start him on the next side the following feeding . . I even tried what his pedi told me to tickle his hands and feet but he’s just so sleepy . His breathing pattern , suck and swallowing is all good. . And he always has wet diapers , and he’s gaining weight so pedi told me he’s getting enough and gaining . . But I just want to be successful this time and was worried that my supply would go down because he doesn’t stay on either side very long before he’s out , and majority of the time I can’t get him to the other side . So do you think I should stop him at a certain amount of time on one breast and just switch him right away or just let him do what he does ?

He will get better with time. Hes still a newborn. Just keep nursing as much as possible, thats what keeps your supply up. I wouldnt pump if you dont need to. Leaving baby, engorgement, baby is gone are reasons to pump.

@kambam, thank you ! I was just worried it was going to go down since he doesn’t stay on long , but he’s eating every 3-3 and a half hours .
