Special needs mommas I have a question... might be a bit personal. Feel free to decline to answer..

What’s the question

@damn.it.red does your husband believe your child actually has something wrong with them or do they not believe the doctors and thinks your child is "normal"..

@red_carr, at first he didn’t believe it. But after all the testing and shit he realized something was wrong. Took a lot of testing and once she started getting homework he realized “oh shit, she does need the special ed”

@damn.it.red oh OK. My hubby says his girls are "perfect" which I know he's scared for anything to be wrong but I feel like he's going to fight me over her appointments and therapies she may need.. Idk what's wrong with her exactly but ECI is coming out to evaluate her soon and when I talked to them on the phone they confirmed that how she acts isn't normal and is delayed...

@red_carr, n is developmentally delayed. She didn’t start talking until her 2nd year in kindergarten. She still goes to speech. She’s in special ed for reading. We finally found out that she is dyslexic. Which makes it harder for her to read. Numbers don’t effect her just letters. H just had her birth defect which she needed help in speech for.

I was more in denial then my husband. But one day I just saw what his Dr and teachers was talking about. I think as parents we try not to think our kids have disability.

@damn.it.red autumn doesn't talk still and acts OCD. She bangs her head hard on hard things all day whether she's mad or happy it doesn't matter...

@momof3cuties I just don't want him to try to refuse any treatments she needs because I will fight him for our daughters health.

@red_carr, she probably does it because she’s frustrated she can’t explain what she needs, how she feels, what she wants, etc. n would pull her hair.

@red_carr, you have to get on their level and everytime you give her something tell her what it is and try to get her to say it

@damn.it.red she does it randomly when she's calmly watching TV sitting in my lap just out of no where

@damn.it.red I do that but she'll either say no or yell and bang her head on a hard object

I'm just at A loss.. No matter what you say or who you say it to she thinks you're talking about her and runs to something hard to hit

@red_carr, that’s difficult. Hopefully you can get some help to figure out what is wrong. Have you brought it up to her dr? She might need a behavioral therapist

@damn.it.red yes.. Her doctor thought it was normal and she'd out grow it but I know its not normal and the ECI people agree its not normal..

@damn.it.red I don't think the doctor understood the extent of it

@damn.it.red it breaks my heart seeing her go through this.. and I can't fix it for her..

@red_carr, i know. It’s a horrible feeling. I noticed if I raised my voice it made things harder on her. And she acted out more

@damn.it.red same here.. If I get on to her for hitting her head she does it worse..

@damn.it.red do you remember what age they were able to diagnose

@red_carr, just let her be. She will stop. What does she hit it on?

@red_carr, gah they didn’t actually diagnose n until 2 years ago? They gave her a developmentally delayed diagnosis at age 3-4.

@damn.it.red oh OK. Yes she'll stop eventually. Everything hard. The back of her head she'll slam into the floor backwards but the front she finds hard things like the door, fridge, tables, dish washer, toys, myself..

@damn.it.red she's been hitting her head since about 11 months old but they said she would out grow it and I believed them till recently

@red_carr, have you tried to redirect her?

@red_carr hopefully he will come around for her and not. Its easier for both parents to be on the same page
