I’m posting this in all my mom groups...Ugh I need some advice. My 3 year old daughter is having frequent nightmares. She’s waking up 3-5x a night. I hear her whimpering asking where I am as if she’s asking someone. She sounds distressed when saying it. Shes always sitting with her eyes closed so I don’t think she’s fully awake. Sometimes she’s hitting her pillow saying don’t touch me and get away from me. My heart breaks seeing her like this. I’ve tried a night light. I have a noise machine to the sound of rain for her, before bed we talk about things she loves and things she wants to dream about. I do positive affirmations like having her say “I’m safe and happy” a few times. I don’t know how to help her.

This may sound silly but it worked for me when I was younger and went through nightmares. I would buy a dream catcher and explain what it is to her.

@mamabearxx2, I do love that and I have one above her bed. I tell her it’ll take all her bad dreams and feelings away. She says goodnight to it every night. Haha

@elijahsmom, she has her two little blankets she calls her “beesees” lol. She’s had them since birth. I was thinking about getting her a special stuffed animal and explain that I will always be with her and it will keep her safe?

@mamabearxx2, it’s so heartbreaking to see her so upset.

@elijahsmom, and I will try the sage thing. That’s a great idea.

Awe poor little girl. Def sounds like nightmares. I’ve been having a problem with my 4 year old waking up every night. He’s not scared or anything he just screams my name. I go into his room and tuck him back in bed and tell him to go back to sleep. That works for us but again it’s a different situation. Hopefully something others have mentioned will help

@feeneythebashingqueen honestly this sounds like night terrors. Which can effect usually 3-12 year olds. Night terrors are different from just having nightmares. They are very real feeling. I had them when I was little. I would talk to her Doc about it..

So my oldest sleep walks and have night terrors. Her doctor suggested melatonin to put her in a calmer deeper sleep. It could be something you can ask your pediatrician about.
Also I'm not sure if you give chocolate milk. But caffeine has been known to affect sleep and contribute to nightmares.

Any recent big life changes or trauma? Sometimes kids see things that we don’t think resonate and they act out/have nightmares because they don’t know how to cope or process situations.
